Louie's pre-war beauties PICS

Here are the first 4 installments of a soon to be large pre-war 1/48 diecast plane collection. I got all of these from gerry (phantom phan) at Big Guns Collectibles.
The Buffalo is Hobbymaster
The SBD Dauntless is Franklin Mint
The Wildcat is Carousel 1
The SNJ Texan is Eagles International

I was blown away by the Dauntless it feels like it is completely heavy metal and the high gloss yellow paint sets it off. I am extremely happy with it.
The SNJ I removed the too large antenna after much research I discovered that many of them did not have this and sadly EI made it a wee bit big. The rivet detail on the SNJ is a bit too fierce but otherwise it is beautiful and worth more than I paid.
The Wildcat is heavy and the engine and landing gear detail coupled with the colors make it a huge success.

An interesting note is- the pilot in the Buffalo is a Carousel 1 Fokker Dr 1 pilot that I re-painted in pre-war navy colors what a fun project and look at the pics he BELONGS in that Buffalo.

HobbyMaster inspired this collection and I anxiously await other models to join these. Hope there will be a Curtiss Hawk and Boeing F4F too in the future.
The Dauntlesses are getting hard to find better jumpp on these..............................

Re: Louie's pre-war beauties PICS

Louie - I love the pre-war birds as well! I have a HM F2A-2 as well as the C1 F4F-3. They are wonderful models. I'm waiting for the HM F3F-1 and will probably spring for the C1 P-36. 1/48 was not a scale I was going to collect, but HM put me over the top with the F3F announcement.

I was surprised at how large the F4F was in 1/48. Not a svelte little model like the C1 Nieuport 11. Wouldn't it be great if we could get a F4B, P-6E and P-26 to join the parade? That SBD must be one honking big piece of diecast.

Nice line up of aircraft sporting pre war paint schemes.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Louie's pre-war beauties PICS

Thanks guys. I really like the SNJ it has detail every where you look. The cockpit is very detailed and the metal prop and small stencilling do it proud. I do wish they had gone a bit softer with the rivet holes but otherwise this is a core piece and unlike the 50 million other types of Texans, I chose the gunnery scheme for it's unique subject. I mean, who would have even thought these has tail hooks and landed on carriers......

And yes, the SBD is a chunk of seriously heavy metal and the gloss wings make it that much more beautiful.

Very nice collection of pre-war cuties! Too bad the HM F-3F is in 1/72nd as it would make a great addition to your pre-war birds....

Hey flyX,

HM's F3F is in 1/48, so it'll fit right in!

Mine's on preorder as well!
