Re: Most Expensive Model

My most expensive model is not quite diecast. I paid $300 for it, and it is my rarest piece. It is a wood 1/50th German military ID model from WWII. The reason it is quite rare is that it is of a Polish PZL.46 Sum aircraft and probably was made in the late 1930s. Not sure how many of these may still be left.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

I think this is the right section to post this.

What is your most expensive or most valuable model? How much?

Please post pics and manufacturer and scale.

Thanks!!

Without a doubt, my Armour/FM 1/48th scale (B11B584) Australian, CA-27/Mk32 "Black Panther" Sabre - courtesy of Ranjet. I scoured the world over (via the internet, of course) for almost 4-1/2 years and never ONCE ever saw this one (the model, that is...) or even a single photo of this model - just that silly "artist's sketch" one sees within the pages of older Armour catalogs. I seriously wondered for quite a while if these had ever been produced at all!!

Ranjet (see his info this forum - he owns over 450+ Armour models!!!) came to my rescue - for a price, of course - and by golly, it wasn't cheap - WELL into the 3-digit figures...!! - But, WELL worth it, in my opinion...!! Ironically enough, I got the only other Australian Sabre ("Black Diamond") for only $50, plus shipping. The neat thing about this model (near as I can tell, it was made sometime in late 2002 to early 2003) is that it went from Armour to Australia and back to the US - it came to me from Tennessee - a real "world-traveler" - the stamps on the top of the white FM shipping box were 2/3rds covered with Australian postage stamps. It was also made with all "tampo-pad-printed" graphics - no water-slide decals - another neat "plus"!! My only complaints (mild ones, at worst) were that (1) it didn't come with external (drop) tanks - a single sidewinder missile only under each wing - and (2) the "'Roo" decal on each wing is facing the wrong direction - apparently a common Armour slip-up.
Other than that, a very nice model, indeed!! - JY

Question Re: Most Expensive Model

Last edited by John Youngs : 04-06-2008 at 05:30 AM. Reason: clarification of a point
Here are some of my > rare and precious < FM 1/48
Ok, there are not that expensive ( just cost me a lot of time searching ) but they are hard to get.

At least the first three, the others are still available

derhamburgerjung - Reference the Armour 1/48th scale "F-4" Sabre jet (I think they intended to list the name or title on the box as a "Mk. 4" - there never was such a thing as an "F-4 Sabre") - I have that model, and it doesn't look anything like yours - here's a similar photo (not mine) of what mine looks like. Yous looks like it has a medium to dark blue paint scheme - is it really like that or was that the way the light happened to reflect off of it?? I've seen several British & German jet aircraft with similar paint schemes so I wasn't sure if this was really sent this way or if this was simply a photo (processing) error of some sort. Really curious about this one...!! - JY

It's definately all the ingredients thrown together.... of camera-angle, lighting (natural) & most important of all; Digital Camera.

It's the same model ok - just appears somewhat different due to the above reasons.

In the pic' you've posted (above) the underside/Fuel-tank appears 'Grey'.....

Whereas, on the model (actually in my hands now !!!!).... it's like a Dark-Cobalt blue !!!!!!!

I remember seeing the (Real) example at the RAF Museum at Hendon a few years back; with an IPMS friend who commented on the very rich dark-'Cobalt'-Blue colour underneath (& believe me, they don't research it wrong for the main-National museum here !).

To quote an older Genesis L.P.; it's a Trick of the Tail !!!!!!!!

Re: Most Expensive Model

That is awesome! Well done! This is by far my favorite commission or set, for that matter -- jsut got the DVD and it is very well done, too, really completes the package.

The set was auctioned and the winning bidder didn't claim it?

....and my fave set too PappyB,

according to my sources at the time, both set 1 and 600 of the collector's box edition were flown on board the Spitfire and Hurricane respectively, then auctioned with set 1 going to the USA and set 600 remaining unclaimed post-auction....and which then made its way to ebay, with a B-I-N set by the MoM Team

of the alternative 1360 legends MoM sets which were also issued it is known that a number of them were also signed by the MoM pilots at the pre-Malta flight event at Duxford....i've managed to get hold of two of them and there must be several more out there....their certificates are not signed by the veterans

re the DVD, two editions were commissioned, the first and initial release carries a pic of the Spitfire and Hurricane overflying the harbour area. In the second edition more uncut footage was included, 3 short movies, showing the team arriving over grand harbour taken from shore, the arrival taken from the onboard cam of the Spitfire, and the third of the saturday display over the airshow venue (again from the onboard spitfire cam).....a picture archive is also included in the latter DVD

Re: Most Expensive Model

Hello John, you are right. My picture was not indeed the best. But my digi cam is now several year old, so not the best choice for close-up pictures.
I have the model now in front of me and it does looks like the one on your picture.Mine was way to dark

Re: Most Expensive Model

I bought this 1:32nd scale Camel ( brand unknown ) for $200.

Epapazian - that is a "Britains Planes & Tanks" #08941. The figures were made in England and the plane was made in China according to the box. I have a mint in box model like yours and 2 of their matching Fokker DR 1 with Manfred & Lothair #00158. I don't collect them anymore. If anyone is interested in them you can PM me.

Thanks. That's one mystery that's finally cleared up. Odd, the store, which is now defunct, didn't even have a box.

Hornchurch - Many thanks for setting the record straight for me on this! My Mk. 4 Sabre (still boxed up) is buried right now under lots of other model boxes & therefore I don't have ready access to it. I bought it from a dealer friend of mine down in San Diego, CA over 3 years ago & haven't been able to view it since - HA! Since it's never been out of the box, I really wasn't aware of what the underside looked like! Thanks for the "heads-up"...!! - JY
