A Whole Mess Of Zeros

My favorite motif is the Solomon Islands Scheme( green mottles over light gray, two white fuselage bands ).

Re: A Whole Mess Of Zeros

Nice group of Zeros. Looks like their headed for Pearl Harbor.

Nice collection. It looks like you have some Corgi's in there. How do they hold up? They came out before I started collecting and the few things I've seen about them haven't been flattering, yet there are a couple I've always considered picking up. You look to be as close as an expert as I'm likely to find.

Anything for a weird life.

The Corgis aren't as good as I'd like, but most of the manufacturers have flaws in their Zeros. The Corgi models are overly thick near the wingtips, lack a pitot head and have a totally botched tail wheel set up. The latter neither retracts fully nor extends as it should, with the result that I usually break this piece off, dab a bit of black paint where the raised wheel should show and display the plane as if in flight.

While Dragon's Zero is a much better model, it features a huge gap between the rear portion of the canopy---where it slides rearward---and the fuselage. I fixed this on both of the Dragon Zeros shown in the picture, but this is a tricky operation and not for the unskilled. FOV's Zero also isn't bad , except for two awful screw holes under the wings and a glue-on pitot head that keeps falling off. And so it goes. As you can also see, few manufacturers come close to the Zero's correct colors when in the JN gray mode. This has been reviewed extensively on another thread, but in a nutshell, these planes were given an extra waxy coat that turned greenish-olive when exposed to sunlight. Only Corgi comes close to this with its Zeros.

As you can see, it's hard for me to recommend any of Corgi's Zeros, unless you are willing to make some serious corrections. However, the same could be said for virtually all of the Zeros out there. Since I happen to like the Zero, I buy them all but have my repair kit and paint brush handy for the inevitable redos.

Nice selection of Zeros, and big too.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

While Jim is assembling his forces, will these do?
