My New King & Country Type 97 Tank

This impressive King & Country Type 97 ( Chai-Ha ) tank just arrived from the Monkey Depot. It's in 1:30th scale.

Re: My New King & Country Type 97 Tank

Well, I've been looking at these "King & Country" A.F.V's only last-night; until then, I didn't know they are made in England = came as a shock to me........ then I saw the prices (Yikes !)

Are they made of resin ? or, metal ?

The one that caught my eye was the Renault R.35 tank.

What kind of Dollars does that go for, State-side ?

These (as all) are made of resin. I have one. The tank treads look cappy though...

King & Country was founded in Hong Kong in 1984 by two Scots. the models are made of "polyresin", an extremely durable and tough blend of resin with ground stone. Pricing varies, but I paid $89 for the Type 97 and $119 for the Hummel via the Monkey Depot and $105 for the Renault via the Hobby Bunker, plus shipping, of course. These are fairly typical U.S. prices for their tanks, but smaller pieces come in a bit cheaper.

Re: My New King & Country Type 97 Tank

Is the model a one piece cast?

I don't think so. The turret, of course, is a separate piece, but it looks like the tank threads and the wheels are cast separately and then attached to the chassis. Early productions from King & Country, had lots of surplus web-like material between the road wheels, creating a clumsy solid casting look. However, they have improved this aspect considerably, giving the models a far more realistic appearance.

That is what I was hoping you would say. Your latest addition looks pretty sharp. Still sitting on the fence when it comes to picking up one King &Country models, but your photos are definitely making it hard to stay there.

Don't wait too long CC. These are all "retired" models---which is why I grabbed them. My recommendation: try the Type 97. The Monkey Depot may still have one.
