The value of your collection?

Some spare time and recent PM with another member got me thinking about this. My current model count is a tad over 250....or so.
The other day I just sorta gazed at those on display and started doing the math. Next thing you know I had a notebook out and was estimating the value of the lot. I have a pretty wide range of models in various scales including bombers and fighters. I did not finish the inventory value estimate really but I did come up with an average. I figure about $35 average value. Granted some are worth hundreds (Lancs and other bombers, some misc models) and others I'd be lucky to get $15 but very few of the models are worth less than that. $35 x 260= ready.........................$9100. Not to mention the $700 I have in the displays and the models on pre-order.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

Re: The value of your collection?

Parsig, If I could get to all the boxes I have piled up right now I might try what you did but my collection is like a house of cards (pull out the wrong box and the whole lot goes crashing down). I'll have to come up with a plan to inventory and estimate the value at some point. Also doesn't help that I've got 1/6th and 1/18th mixed in there. I need to stop buying and take a breath or I really gotta stop hanging out virtually with all of you!!

Re: The value of your collection?

I don't know if I want to know... ignorance is bliss, afterall....

Maybe I'll total it up -- probably should for insurance reasons anyways... and repost (I'd guess around $5k -- been collecting for about 13 years and have about 300 models, but that includes about 50 or so 1:72 armour for $10 a pop or so in Dragon's good ol' days... and 20 or some speccast and such that ain't worth much these days.

Makes me feel a bit better to see most votes are $7K plus at the moment -- y'all have a bit of a problem!

(pot, this is the kettle...)

Re: The value of your collection?

Well i can't lie about my collection since i did a count the other day when Glenn asked me how many planes i had in my collection it's over
250 planes... I have 2 oak Curios that are over $1800 for both and a smaller curio about 300.00 worth.
I did a price count on what i spent and i was shocked at what it was.
It made me turn on the TV a watch a war movie and have a few beers and then my buddies came over and asked what's a matter i told them how much i spent on the diecast
...They said oh heck that's nothing do you know how much we spend on our wives a year ?? After i figured that out i felt a lot better.... I spend alot more on her then i do with my collection....

Re: The value of your collection?

Being a slow starter to this hobby (not quite 10 months into it) & also being a raging compulsive obsessive character i've purchased a lot of models during that time. Not sure of the exact amount until I start loading them into a database in the next few weeks but probably in the vicinity of 150.

Because of the exchange rates from both the US & UK and the outrageous amounts we have to pay in freight to get these heavy "must haves" down under, i'd estimate i've spend around $14,000 NZD so far. I've all but run out of room & limiting my spend but I do have a lot of pre-orders coming up in the next few months...

Wifey is a little unimpressed but i've bribed her by buying her a horse

Now, do you mean the actual value or do you mean the value I report to my wife?

Shoot, in that case my sweetheart thinks I got ripped off because I spent $163.75 on my ENTIRE collection!

You sure did. I only spent $75 (not counting shipping, of course).

Re: The value of your collection?

I tell my wife I get everything on sale and and with no shipping cost. When she see's my collection, she always tells me, "Did you buy more planes?" I tell her no, I just rearranged them. But all jokes aside, I started six months ago and I've spent well over two thousand dollars
