Re: The value of your collection?

Yeah, no kidding AA! I'm up to 88 FM/Armour models now, and over 250 aircraft total... Then there are the tanks and military vehicles.

Anyway, as for the "market value" idea, that makes it tough to estimate, since the value of some these models tend to fluctuate a lot on e-bay or with many private sellers (such as: some of my Minichamps tanks) or even in retail stores (special sales, clearances, etc...). I personally only keep track (Excel spreadsheet) of what I actually paid for the model at time of purchase. That's much easier.

FVD

Uhm, I won't even count anymore. With extras and stuff I am beyond 200 Armours alone.

Yeah, good point. In my spreadsheet I have these values:

- what I paid for it
- the standard retail price
- what it's worth (rough estimate or ebay experience)

My baseline value to my collections is the market value.

Besides, got the Minichamps we talked about...

Cheers,
AA

Re: The value of your collection?

I have no idea what I spent in total on my collection and I dont want the pain of knowing.

However when I talk to my friends and hear what they spend on their hobbies I feel a lot happier.
One friend of mine has spent £780 on a camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
BTW last year he spent over £2000 on his photography hobby.

Another friend of mine bought a new fishing rod and reel and spent the amazing sum of £450!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Anyway what price can you put on having a great hobby and great buddies to discuss it with?

OK so you go hungry now and again, its worth it.

God Bless America.

Re: The value of your collection?

I would have suggested a top range much higher than $7000 in this poll. I have at least 300 diecast airplanes on display with twice that number in storage. What are these worth? On eBay, if sold today, probably $50,000. Ten years from now------who knows? And then, there's the plastic part of my collection which includes many not easily found models. What are these worth on eBay---not that I plan to sell them? As a guess, probably more than the diecast. Of course, this aggregation has taken me about 14 years to assemble, but I think that I'm not the only one who has a rather large and still growing collection.

One of the problems in evaluating the value of a collection is the difficulty one might encounter if trying to sell it. Aside from pure luck--like a museum acquiring the whole lot--- how would I unload 900+ diecast models via eBay. Obviously, not all at once---else I'd glut my own market value. Indeed, it might take years to sell of the majority of the collection and there is no way to predict whether current valuation estimates would hold for the entire period.

Re: The value of your collection?

As I noted in my earlier post, it's always difficult to assess the value of your collectibles. What do you guys think this Cruver WWII ID model garnered at an online auction? It's a B&V 139.

In the last two years I spent over $7000.00 on die-casts...it's called no kids. Except for me.

Re: The value of your collection?

My diecast collection isn't worth nearly as much as my library.

The thing about collecting diecast (and books) is since they are permanent, they tend to accumulate. Over time they accumulate to quite a noticeable extent. This hobby isn't that expensive. I know. I used to fly, ski, and sail. And let's not get started on computers.
