Trex's junkroom.

Spent Veteran's Day weekend working around the house and being generally constructive (with some unintended destruction thrown in). I also finally managed to put two Detolf's together and am pretty happy with the results.

As mentioned, there was some unintentional destruction. After I put things together and started taking pictures a couple of the planes engaged in a furball. It seems the FW-190 took out one of the pursuing Mustangs and managed to score a hit on the nose of the Flying Fortress (last picture).

What really happened was the B-17 tipped off it's stand and took a nose first dive four feet off the top shelf. I was taking a photo of the bottom shelf and accidentally bumped the glass door which reverbed through the rest of the case and caused the stand (which is p.o.s. btw) to tilt to the side, knock out one Mustang (which I now need to replace) and came crashing down. Just a warning to everyone with a Corgi B-17, the cradle is very loose (at least on 5 of the 7 B-17 that I have) and is prone to tilt to the side. No amount of tightening the screw would remedy the problem, so I just super glued the thing in one position. This happened twice to me and luckily the only thing damaged was the nose and right aileron of the B-17. If anyone has an extra B-17G nose, please contact me and I'll buy it off of you!!!!

Anyway, enjoy the pics. I mostly had fun putting things together. Now to pick up another 40 or so Detolf's for the rest of the stuff!

Re: Trex's junkroom.

Nice display, looks like your Fortress took a head on attack from a Fw-190.. Bummer, but atleast it faired better than the Gemini P-51, which can probably be brought back from the ashes fairly easily..

I can feel your pain there Trex!

Whenever I rearange my collection some pitot-tube or something similar gets bend or broken.

Besides, you got a nice diecast warehouse there.

I you feel the need to lighten your FM/A load. *hint* Feel free to contact me.

Re: Trex's junkroom.

Too bad about the B-17, Trex. However (and not to make light of it), perhaps one needs to just look at it a little differently. I rather like the first scenario you painted. After all, how many collectors have a BATTLE DAMAGED B-17? Rather makes it more interesting!

Aw! A Frankie P-51 at that! That's terrible. I must avert my eyes.

Is that a 1:6 Sheman in the back? That is very large indeed.

Re: Trex's junkroom.

Thanks for all of the comments fellas! The battle damage does look authentic but I'd still like to get the nose replaced. This is the first time I've displayed any of my diecasts so it sucked that the planes were damaged.

Yes Cav, that is a 1/6th Sherman. It weighs about 45 lbs, and I'm seriously considering selling it off. It's the old Viper Sherman and is made of resin. I had an plastic & aluminum 1/6th Tiger I that I sold a couple of years ago. The Tiger was really nice but it took up nearly 4ft of space!

The rest of the "junk" is in storage (1/18th scales planes and armor). I like the large models because of the Wow factor but there just ain't enough room.
