A Decent BF-110, Except For One Error

Can you spot the ( to me ) glaring error on this North African Theater BF-110?

Are you referring to the exstention of the rear fuselage at the tail?

Is the antenna incorrectly located (and positioned/should be parallel to the wings) under the fuselage?

Re: A Decent BF-110, Except For One Error

Remember seeing some pictures and did find a pallet on this one with extended tail section. Best I can remember tail part of fuselage was lengthened to hold a rescue dingy. Think this mod was found on some early Bf 110D-3s and the latter Bf 110E-3s models used in the Mediterranean.

Found picture of extended tail at German Air Force Pictures (IXO Bf 110 appears to have the extended tail section).

Are you referring to the exstention of the rear fuselage at the tail?

According to the artist's rendition of this plane, which was published in David Mondey's "Concise Guide to Axis Aircraft of World War II" and elsewhere, there is an extension of the rear fuselage beyond the tail, but this isn't the glaring error I was referring to. My plastic model simply didn't have this feature, so I ignored it. The error that bugged me years after the fact is more painfully apparent since even IXO got it right.

According to most pictures of the BF-110, the ring antennae under the fuselage---I assume this is what you refer to-- is on the centerline, which is where it is on this rendition. Nope, my error is practically starring me in the face every time I look at this model. Just to make things worse, as I noted in my reply to Cruver, even IXO got this one right. How can I live that down? And ten years ago, when this plane was detailed, I fancied myself an expert. Oh, the shame of it.

Oh, man, yeah: The windows are blacked out! How did the crew see?! Was this some sort of "use the Force, Oberst. Luke," plane?! Glaring.

Let me correct my reply. You were probably referring to the ventral antenna that protrudes where the port wing meets the fuselage at the rear. This is barely visible in the picture, but is approximately in the right potition, albeit a bit too short and not quite the right shape. It's not the gaff I am so ashamed of, however.

As you know, the Germans were very secretive and didn't want the Brits to see who was in their planes. Actually, with solid plastic castings of this type a glossy midnight blue finish on the canopy gives a sense of depth that lighter hues, such as those often used on wooden models, fail to convey.

Cool Re: A Decent BF-110, Except For One Error

The yellow paint on cowlings and rudders...? (Weren't identification markings on the MTO supposed to be white, like the Reggia Aeronautica ?)
