Re: A Decent BF-110, Except For One Error

The yellow paint on cowlings and rudders...? (Weren't identification markings on the MTO supposed to be white, like the Reggia Aeronautica ?)

Nope. Yellow cowlings and/or rudders were quite common on BF-110s and many BF-109s in this theater.

Re: A Decent BF-110, Except For One Error

Would it be the armored wind screen that probably would not be seen until the Bf 110 F-1? Cannot seem to find a shot that shows this on earlier D and E models.

Did find reference that indicated the 57mm bullet resistant wind screen was retrofitted to earlier models, so this may not be the error you are looking for. (IXO model I have us minus this feature, which is why I thought this might be the error in question)

P.S. Probably not what you are looking for, found picture of Bf 110E with armored wind screen.

I have read the same thing about retro fitting the windscreens---we probably use the same references---but that's not it.

The camoflauge colours? Shouldn't they be be brown/sand and not the clearly defined pattern that is on the model?

I've seen a number of artist's renditions of this plane as well as various kit makes and pictures thereof which all look very close to my model, regarding colors, patterns, etc. Nope, the error I have in mind is of a different genre. What's interesting about this exercise, is how obvious my mistake is---so long as one knows what to look for. I realize, now how easy it was for me to miss it when detailing the plane ten years ago.

Nope, that's not it, although I have seen some debates as to whether the brown should have been green. It's hard to tell in the old B&W pictures, but it is possible that the Luftwaffe crews emulated the typical RAF desert scheme of sand and dark earth, using Italian paint stocks.

Not obvious to my old eyes but are the inboard exhausts on the model upside down?

If that is it you have some good eyes, can't tell even with my bifocal specs.
