| Re: A Solid Resin B-17G In 1:72 Scale I wish Corgi would make that silver & red markings on their B-17's...That is one of my favorite B-17 schemes. Thanks for posting them. JP | |||||||||||||

| Re: A Solid Resin B-17G In 1:72 Scale Love the 'Nuthampstead' markings..........Love it ! A very special place - I've been there numerous times !!!!!!!!! The Village Pub, "The Woodman" (next to the old runway/base) still carries a Large Framed Photograph, in pride of place, on the chimney-breast above the Fireplace.......... of 1st Lt/de-Lancey's 398th B.17-G that lived/flew from here. It shows the B.17 in her most famous picture - as she returned to Nuthampstead (astonishingly !) , with her nose absolutely shattered, after a direct 'Flak' hit (!!!!!!!), yet, still managing to stagger back to base !!!!!!!! There's some lovely colour footage/film, that's played daily at nearby Duxford Air museum (next to their static B.17 & B.24) which features the B.17's & unit-markings portrayed by this 'Resin' model I've attached a pic' of the (Famous) 'de-Lancey' Flak-damaged B.17-G, which has been featured in numerous books over the years, & hangs over the main-Fireplace in "The Woodman" at Nuthampstead. | |||||||||||||

| Re: A Solid Resin B-17G In 1:72 Scale
As I explained on another thread, this is something I had done for myself when I returned to the hobby after a long absence roughly a dozen years ago. I hired a company to create a "master" copy of the plane, including special treatment to make the canopy frames, panel lines, etc. more visible. Then they made a two-part rubber mold ( top half-bottom half ) of the "master". Once this was done they could inject plastic--in a heated and liquified state--under high pressure. Once cooled, the model was cleaned up with some sanding, the air holes and other flaws were filled or fixed and "loose parts" such as machine guns, pitot tubes, antennae, tail wheels, etc were added. Then, all I had to do was paint the plane as shown in the pictures. Not that I needed them, but the rubber molds were capable of turning out about 40 models before wearing out--I only took 4 -8 of these for myself- , depending on the plane-so, in theory, if other parties wanted to acquire a B-17G, for example, they could be accommodated. We did quite a large number of planes in this manner--all in a wheels up or "flying mode"---hence no props. While the idea of selling these commercially crossed my mind, the advent of far cheaper diecast models, which began shortly after these molds were made, put an end to such thoughts. I gave the molds away and doubt if any are still viable today. Which leaves me with a very interesting and unique component of my collection. I've got about 250 of these birds in my display cases, along with 300-350 diecasts plus various kit-makes. Quite a few of these aging but still worthwhile resin models are pictured in various threads I have posted recently and some are still in my hosted pictures file if you care to examine them. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: A Solid Resin B-17G In 1:72 Scale I like it. You could have had a niche market cottage industry going there. | |||||||||||||
