Ju 88G-6 Nightfighter in 1/48th scale

It has been quite a few years since I did any serious building, and this is one of my favorites. Kit was a DML Ju-88G-6 that just cried out to be upgraded. I started off by converting nose section to resin FuG 240 Berlin N1 radome. Then I had to do some serious cutting to put in set of resin flaps in the lowered position. All antennas are photo etched brass and main landing gear are weighted resin tires. The moving surface of rudder is different in color to reflect example I had seen of Ju 88 that had replacement rudder off of a Mistel. Finally every single panel line and rivet was high lighted by using a drafting pencil (Huge time consuming process). Final picture is how it appeared in Fine Scale Modeler Reader Gallery in March of 1997.

Very nice, Cruver--is it still in existence?

Has spent some time displayed in hobby shops, but currently resides at home.

What a neat thing to have a model you made in a magazine like that. Really nice work Cruver!

Thanks for sharing it. We have had quite a few of you experts with us over the years. Must be hard to look at some of this diecast.

Some of the companies out there are putting out some real high quality models, and it makes hard to jump back into model building. For years I wanted to spend a few months working on a Brewster Buffalo project, but after the gems that Hobby Master put out it makes real hard to get motivated ( Problem is I have close to 100 unbuilt kits I eventually have to get around to.).

I have been setting aside plastic kits for several years now and really meant to get back into it once I retired. I retired just under 4 years ago and the only building I have done has beens stick and tissue rubber powered models and Hand Launched Gliders (I have a fairly large stash of these type kits to bash out also0.

I know how ya feel !!!!!!!!!

Times change & I just got lazy ! - I've got a vast collection of unbuilt models, that I built up over a 10 - 15 year spell

As I belonged to an 'I.P.M.S.' club, who held & sponsered one of the biggest 'shows' in the U.K. ('Southern-Expo'), I used to sell-off my older kits & 'upgrade' (usually) to newer & better releases.....

Being friendly with the management of the UK's 'prime' Kit sales business helped, as I'd 'cherry-pick' stuff before it went for sale (again) on S/h shelves.......

Those two reasons above helped me to amass some decent 1/48th Hasegawa & Tamiya kits, as well as 4 x that Ju.88-G.6 Nightfighter that you've made......(mine are still unbuilt !)
I recognised the Decal-sheet, which I still have - bought for my 'Dragon' G.6's (the DML kits were sold as 'Dragon' over here)
I picked up mine at a Biggin-Hill Air-Display, for (a rather cheap) £13 , which was good, as originally over here, that same kit used to be £46 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (initially)

One of my mates picked up the rarer 'G.10' version, as well as several of the Ta.152's in DML boxes, before the mould was (later) used by Italeri !!!!!!!!!!!!

Cruver, Did you find the kit went together well ????? as I've heard some of the lads in London, 'Gripe' about that kit, as well as the (almost identical) mould that was released by Revell on their Ju.88-A.4 kit ???????????/

The gripes you heard were fairly well justified on this model. Adding the mods I did to it did not help, but even with out them it would have been tricky. Just curious if you ever took a shot at one of the kits put out by Trimaster. Some of these were fairly tricky, but gee did they put out some odder variants with unique weapon loads. That and they seem to be one of the first multi media kits with photo etched parts included.

Thanks for re-inforcing what they'd said !!!!!!!!!!!

Two of my mates often Laugh, as I bought a 'Bucket-load' of those Ju.88-A.4's (& some Ju.88-C.6's) + G.6 Nightfighters = pretty-much ALL the same mould.

The Revell 1/48th 'A.4' variant, was being knocked out for £10 a go !!!!!!! not bad for a £30 kit ?

(nowadays, kit-builders in London can't get 'em, so the prices go up - same as the Monogram B.26 Marauder prices did (£30-£35), until Revell 're-issued' the B.26 kit, with 391st B.G (Matching-Green) markings "Idiots-Delight".........

I picked up one of those for £5 from a trade-stall at RNAS Yeovilton a few years back !!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the lads, who makes models that are featured in Magazines, had a 'Mad' crush on 'Tri-master' kits............

4 of my mates tried to 'Lynch' me, when I came away (one afternoon, at 'Southern-Expo') with a sought-after 'Trimaster-RammJager'
Being bribed & seeing the 'begging' going on around, made me laugh myself Hoarse !!!!!!!!!!

Guys between the ages of 30- 40, going a 'Dribbly' over a (stupid) kit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (which is still here, unbuilt !)

Felt a bit differently, though, last-year, as one sold on USA-E bay, for a whacking $75.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
