| Yep Waltz41, I do have a seperate Insurance policy for this. Some of the things came from the vets who wore them. Some I brought off of other collectors. But probably most of the things you see I got off eBay. I do have a good chunk of change stuck in to all of this stuff. But I have also been lucky and have purchased some rare pieces for very little. One of my best buys from eBay was a guy overseas. His ad was that his Grandfather was in WWII and he was going through his attic and found this pair of German motorcycle goggles. He had a Buy It Now for them of $25. What they were, which he didn't know, was a very rare pair of Luftwaffe pilot goggles, along with the metal case they were issued in. I couldn't believe it. I thought that I was going to have a heart attack before I could hit the Buy tab. I have seen these sell before for between $500 and $750. Every once in great awhile you will stumble across a deal like this. Oh,,, one more thing that I ran across in a antique store was this case that had an old pair of goggles in it. They turned out to be an ulta rare pair of Japanese flight goggles. Since I'm not really into Japanese flight gear I ended up selling them to another collector for $1300. I paid $32 dollars for them,,,, hehehe!!!!
If you ever decide, or anyone else, to jump into this type of collecting and have some questions. Please feel free to contact me. There's alot of fake stuff out there that you have to watch out for. |
That's great man, way to go on those finds. I've yet to have such luck like that, but it's nice to know that someone out there who really cares is getting them!! It's also a shame, like you said, about more and more fake stuff out there, or just simply reproduction stuff that people try to pawn off as original. You just gotta know your stuff, and even then, sometimes they are so good, well.......Anyways, your musuem is great. Seriously, an awesome collection!
