Re: WWII Aviation Gear

Utterly amazing. How long did it take you to accumulate all this? And the manner in which it is displayed, well, simply superb.

Re: WWII Aviation Gear

I started around 2001. It all started with buying my first Armour FW-190. Then I brought a few more, then thought it would be nice to get a real WWII flight helmet. That was the start of it. So watch out when you first start collecting Die-Cast Planes, your bound to get carried away.. As you can probably tell by the photo's that I'm out of room. I have one more vacant bedroom that I have been trying to pursade my wife for over a year now to let me have, but she doesn't think that over night guests would really appreciate sleeping in a room with mannequin's.

Re: WWII Aviation Gear

Well, that's a relatively short time to accumulate all this! I'm very impressed. I'd sure like to have a few WW II artifacts such as yours, but I don't think I'll ever get to your level.

In any event, it will have to wait till we move to our retirement home some day (still many years down the road).

Re: WWII Aviation Gear

That is one heck of a collection RockJock. Man, I hope you have a separate insurance policy on all that stuff!!! I would love to have even 5 % of that stuff man, very cool.

Where do you get most of your stuff, just curious? With some of the pieces I see you have there you either find one heck of a great deal on pieces or your real name is Bill Gates!

Re: WWII Aviation Gear

Yep Waltz41, I do have a seperate Insurance policy for this. Some of the things came from the vets who wore them. Some I brought off of other collectors. But probably most of the things you see I got off eBay. I do have a good chunk of change stuck in to all of this stuff. But I have also been lucky and have purchased some rare pieces for very little. One of my best buys from eBay was a guy overseas. His ad was that his Grandfather was in WWII and he was going through his attic and found this pair of German motorcycle goggles. He had a Buy It Now for them of $25. What they were, which he didn't know, was a very rare pair of Luftwaffe pilot goggles, along with the metal case they were issued in. I couldn't believe it. I thought that I was going to have a heart attack before I could hit the Buy tab. I have seen these sell before for between $500 and $750. Every once in great awhile you will stumble across a deal like this. Oh,,, one more thing that I ran across in a antique store was this case that had an old pair of goggles in it. They turned out to be an ulta rare pair of Japanese flight goggles. Since I'm not really into Japanese flight gear I ended up selling them to another collector for $1300. I paid $32 dollars for them,,,, hehehe!!!!
If you ever decide, or anyone else, to jump into this type of collecting and have some questions. Please feel free to contact me. There's alot of fake stuff out there that you have to watch out for.
