Re: A brief moment of diecast splendor...

It is interesting to see the size differences between the 1/72 and 1/48 versions.

Also interesting to see the IKEA CD case in use. I've been looking at one of them off an on for years but never bought it. Looks sharp.

Yeah, this case is pretty slick and it's a great way to display a lot in a little bit of space --- can fit 30-40 1:72 birds, and probably 60 or more 1:72 vehicles if you wanted. Think they are a $100 -- kind of a pain to mount to the wall, though, and once it's up you won't be wanting to move it.

What makes it hard to mount? If it is too much of a pain I'd probably skip it. I will be buying a second Detlof (or however you spell it!) for sure and will try out the cable locks to provide more shelving in them.

Well, I'm not exactly Mr. Handyman with tools so take this with a grain of salt... you first mount a brace on the wall that the unit "sits" on and then you secure it with screws/braces on the top... I had trouble getting the screws to hold this brace in securely and evenly as I needed to use dry wall screws with securing sleeves, which proved to be very difficult to get to work right. So it wasn't really a failing of the unit itself, but more of the drywall screws I chose and my own lack of handyman know-how... If you've half a clue what you're doing you should be fine.

I can build a PC blindfolded, but I've never given a hoot about household "man stuff"

That is a Gabreski P-47 from Franklin Mint which I had sitting on a Corgi B-17 or B-24 stand -- can't recall which, but it held the plane just fine.
