Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Hey FVD!

The new additions look really good!

Especially the Rufe fits perfectly.

It was really cool (albeit expensive for you ) that you came over.

Somewhere in Germany... That's all I'll say (well, I guess you know it's around Ramstein Air Base).

Thanks for your hospitality AA. Next time I need to bring even more money! Those shops in your area are pretty awesome.

Good thing they're not that close to my house...

Hey, you need to post a picture of your new F-22, if you haven't alreay done so. Great looking model, although I hope FM will do an operational livery very soon (without the bombs).

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

A few more additions from the past couple of weeks (including from my trip to Big Guns Collectibles in Sanford, FL):

Corgi B-25 "Heavenly Body" (I also got the PBJ-1 from a different source, but no room to display yet... that will change soon)

Dragon Me-262B-1a/U1 (night fighter). Wrong colors, but I like the airplane. I hope somebody makes it with the right colors in the future (Corgi might be, I hear)

Douglas Bader joins his Hurricane (who's the impostor at the controls, then?)

And finally, Alexander Vraciu in celebrates 6 victories in front of his HM Hellcat

Yeah, that Lancaster was one of my very first 1/72 models (I didn't think anyone would make it in 1/48), and it pretty much started me into that scale (that and the Gaincorp Su-33).

I'm taking care of that extra display cabinet soon. I'm definitely out of room at the present time. I saw Armour Addict's glass display cabinets on Saturday, and they are perfect. Unfortunately, the company that makes them is not that close to where I live. Still, got to make it happen...

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Some new arrivals to my collection:

The FM/Armour Rufe floatplane joins the Marushin group. Also, some Marushin pilots are now manning the cockpits and a couple of extra ones are just standing around looking...

Your Marushin group of collection looks pretty sweet, FVD! How much did those Marushins costs if you don't mind me asking? I might indulge myself at least on one of them. Thanks!

Well, at the time (about 5 or 6 years ago for the first ones), they were about $80 to $90. Now at Aikens' Airplanes (one of the few places you can find them in the States, in my experience) they are closer to $100. Apparently now they have a line of their models that come fully assembled, rather than requiring assembly as their traditional line does (all mine took about 20 to 30 minutes of assembly, to include super-glue for some parts).

The Betty bombers, if you can get them (very, very hard) are around $250. I don't have one.

Now, be aware, these models have a lot of heft and nice exterior detail, plus a very nice paint finish (and pad-printed markings, not decals). But the interior detail (cockpit, wheel wells) is pretty basic. With the canopies closed (it's optional on their models), you can't see too much inside the cockpits anyway. Just as well...

But I really wanted Japanese planes in 1/48, and they are still the only game in town there except for the FM/Armour Zero and Rufe. I still need the Raiden (Jack) and Hayabusa (Oscar), and I may get those sometime later this year.
