Cool Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Absolutely awesome collection FVD!!! Some very interesting pieces. I presume a mixture diecast and plastic? Nice to see the SAAF also represented.

Thanks ZS-VAN. Mostly diescasts with a few plastics interspersed. I wish I had more from the SAAF... That's part of why I'm so disappointed with the new FM Mirage III, as I was hoping they would eventually do a SAAF one. But the mould just isn't very good, as you well know.

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Great new pics Viper...Before too long your going to end up like me "no more room"
Now all you need to do is add the Werner Voss Fokker Dr.1 with the other three WWI fighters i saw on there.
JP

Yeah, Starman, I'm seriously thinking about adding to the WW I section soon. It's pretty weak right now, but part of it is lack of available models (eagerly waiting for the Corgis later this year). But how in the world did you guess the Werner Voss Dr 1 was top of my list (along with the Baracca Nieuport, maybe)?

True FVD. I would have liked a SAAF one too. Aways great getting a model of an aircraft that saw combat. I just can't understand their motivation on this one though. Surely two seat Mirage IIIs cannot be in high demand. Most would have been trainers. I would likely have gone for the French one just to get started. They've really missed an opportunity here. I probably would have started collecting 1/48s, you know how it goes, all it takes is one.

I am jealous !

Some questions if you don't mind :

I noticed a 1/48 Mig 3, is it a plastic kit ? And the 1/48 KI 61, Marushin or plastic ?

Where on earth did you find the B1bis tank (Gazo-line?)?! I WANT one too !!!

You even have a REPLEX VBL and Leclerc, I have always failed to find any ! And Paradecar ERC90 Sagaie too is rare like chicken's teeth, is it diecast ?

Many thanks !

PS : I would be happy to share my (much smaller) collection, but I still don't have a numeric camera...yet !

Salut, planenutsfrog!

Well, OK: The MiG-3 is at diecast Yat-Ming. It's the only aircraft I have from that make. The quality is pretty weak (but it is metal, and it was pretty cheap to buy); however, with the lack of Russian planes available in 1/48, I chose to display that one anyway.

The Japanes planes are all Marushin, including the Ki-61, However, that one has been modified by painting the green mottled cammo on it after purchase (it was bare metal when I got it). I also re-painted the insides of cockpits and wheel wells on most of my Marushin, to add authenticity.

The Char B1 bis is from Parade, which is the same as Gaso-Line. You can still get them from the Quarter Kit shop in Paris (they sell on-line as well), who are the producers of the Gaso-Line models. They have become quite expensive now (I got mine many years ago when it wasn't quite that bad, although they were never cheap). As you may know, they are mostly resin with some metal parts. But very good quality!

The Sagaie is indeed from Parade, and just like Gaso-Line, it's mostly resin with some plastic and metal parts. Superb quality as well.

Finally, the Leclerc tanks from REPLEX: I actually have two, one in European cammo, the other one in plain olive drab finish (which I don't think is shown in the pictures). I may be willing to part with the latter one (I have the box as well), for a price. If interested, send me a personal message on this forum. Just be aware, though, these things are worth quite a bit these days...

May I ask where in France you live? I'm in Kaiserlautern Germany (although I am American), about 40 minutes from the French border going towards Metz. If you don't want to say that on the forum openly, send me a personal message.

For all your kind answers.

I didn't know REPLEX had made the Leclerc in plain olive drab too ! (only ever saw the desert and european camo variants...).
Some years ago, I would have jumped at your offer, but now (except for some Schuco) I don't have French modern military vehicles anymore. I try to focus on WW2 European armor...

But pse, do send me a private msg with your offer and I will think about it !

I am in the very far west of France, in Brest, Brittany.

Considering your location, I guess you probably know France much better than me Germany. The SW of Germany isn't that unfamiliar to me however, because my parents had been living in Rotweil from 1961 to 67. (my dad was in the air force)

Are you in the USAFE ?

Yes, I am at Ramstein with USAFE, although I retired 3 years ago from the actual USAF and now work for them as a civilian. I used to fly the F-111 and F-16.

My mother is French, BTW, and I speak French fluently.
