Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Excellent my friend!
I noticed what looked like a 1/48th Dewotine D.520 next to Shangri-La, that's plastic right?

Yes, the 1/48 Dewoitine is plastic, a friend made it for me. Interestingly, it's exactly the same livery as the IXO 1/72 one (the pilot was Pierre Le Gloan, a French ace) which I acquired later. I think it's a beautiful airplane. I have a 1/32 version, but still in the box right now, waiting to be assembled some day.

Let me take the opportunity to thank everyone for the good words. The collection is still growing. I'm acquiring a new display cabinet very soon (but my wife says that'll be the last one allowed...).

And about the 82nd Airborne patch (Shawn 507): duly noted and wilco.

I have my own F-16 in the collection. It's in the pictures although kind of hard to see (under the FM/Armour B-17 and B-24). It's 1/32 scale Hasegawa and represents my tail number (274) when I was part of the 313th TFS (Lucky Puppies) at Hahn air base, Germany in the late 80s. My name is painted on the canopy rails as it was on the original.

Overall a very impressive collection, FVD. I see you have a cutaway poster of the Enterprise-D? You collect scifi items too?

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Awesome collection, FVD. I actually got to stop at Hahn while returning to Iraq from leave in May '06. It still has the F-16s painted on the sides of housing area (at least what resembled a housing area).

Cavtanker,

I actually was there yesterday dropping my wife off to catch a Ryan Air flight to France. It's changed a lot since I flew there, but some things have remained the same even during its transformation into a civilian airport.

We fly Ryan Air a couple of times a year (on average), so I get to see ol' Hahn on a regular basis.

By the way, I was an ALO/FAC (Air Liaison Officer/Forward Air Controller) with 3rd Brigade 3rd Armor Division during Desert Storm in 91, and I got to "play" wit the real Army stuff, such as M-1A1 and Bradley, to include shooting a TOW missile from one of those (not in combat, that was after the war was over on a makeshift range in Kuwait).

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

FVD, you are a lucky guy. The closest I ever got to a Viper was seeing them again and again...and again at the Balad Air Base in central Iraq.

flyXwire,

I'm a very big Star Trek fan (I have all the movies and series on DVD), but I don't really collect Sci-Fi models. I have a couple, but that's it.

I do have quite a few of the Star Trek 4.5 inch figures.
