Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Cool pic FVD, get your scanner out, would love to see some more, when I go back to my mums , I`ll try and find my prints of 313tfs birds. Not too many of them on the net. What other Sqn`s where you assigned too? I see 274 is with TX ANG now, and had tehe CO`s Markings for a while:

Have you looked at the F16.net web site? Some cool stuff on there, even has 274`s crew chief from89-21, TSgt. Michael Yeager listed.

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Arno 01,

Yes, I sometimes look at the F-16.net site. Good info there. But I didn't think of looking up crew chief's name.

In fact, there were at least a couple of different crew chiefs during that period for that jet. However, I happen to have a picture of me and Yeager in front of the jet on the ramp at Zarragoza, Spain, during a Weapons Training Detachment (WTD). That's one I will try to scan tomorrow and I will post it here. On that picture, you can see my name on the canopy frame and Yeager's name inside the nose gear door.

Fond memories...

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Arno 01,

I just noticed that picture you posted of 274 in 111FS garb has an AIM-9X on it. Excellent! I didn't know Guard F-16s had those yet. Progress...

However, the pilot is not wearing a JHMCS helmet.

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Hey, Arno 01, here's a picture of the real thing (with a younger FVD, or at the time it would have been "CVD" for "Current Viper Driver") at Hahn circa June or July 1989. I have more, but in paper/photo negative form only at this time. Will have to scan soon...

Awesome FVD!

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

Well, OK, just so we're clear: we're not talking about Chuck Yeager here. I'm referring to my crew chief at the time, TSgt Michael Yeager, whose name was brought back to my memory courtesy of Arno 01.

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

No, the pilot is tranplanted from my HM Spitfire XIV. As noted on the forum already, the HM pilot is undersized, and sits way too low when you put it in the Spit. However, it looks OK in the FM/A Mustang.

FVD

I solved the problem with the pilot of the Spit XIV by sticking a small plastic card cushion to his bottom.

What I need now is a stick...

Has anybody managed to close the canopy with the pilot in ?

Re: FormerViperDriver Collection

OK, Arno 01, here are a couple of pictures. First one is me and crew chief (then Airman First Class) Yeager in front of 274. My name on canopy rail and his on landing gear door.

Second is me infront of 292 at Zaragoza, Spain, just before mission on which I dropped the 6 x BSU-49s (parachute-retarded Mk-82s) on Bardenas Reales range. These are inert rounds (correct weight/shape but no explosives).
