Propellerheads 1:72 collection

Last edited by propellerhead : 09-04-2007 at 06:25 AM. Reason: spelling
Here is my modest 1:72 collection. I've been collecting for about a year. If you would like to add to my collection feel fre to email me .

While I'm at it, I'd like to ask your opinion regarding my idea to display all my planes with landing gear down; no display stands. Visually, I think this would look best and give the appearance of one uniform collection, irrespective of brand. What do you guys think?

Re: Propellerheads 1:72 collection

You've got a lot of nice planes there, prop-head..

As far as displaying them all "gear down" on the hardstand, although the majority of mine are displayed that way,I think it's more visually appealing, as well as better utilization of space to have some "wheels up" over the others (In every major aviation museum I can think of that's the way they display the 1/1 stuff!). This is especially true where you have shelves which have quite a bit of vertical space from one another. The trouble with aircraft is they present more of a horizontal, rather than vertical form and therefore can waste a lot of display space on shelves when they're all sitting on the "ground", and you have a lot of "dead air".....plus it just looks monotonous (but that's just me).

Very nice collection, Propellerhead... and the bottle of Krazy Glue on the bookcase is a nice touch. It's a good idea to keep a bottle handy!

VERY,VERY! nice collection PH. As to how you would place them........ In my cabinets I use this format where ever possible. At the rear, 3 (1:72models) in flight and forward 3 are gear down. In the event that some models are larger. Utilise at your own disgression. Question.... could I have the manufacturers name of the clamps you're using + the size w ould be most helpful. TU

Great collection there Propellerhead... Looks like you have a variety of brands and a good start after only a year.. In answer to your question, I mix my collection up and display on stands and gear depending on the room in the case..

Thanks for the display suggestions. The hardware i used to add shelves to my display case were simple U-Bolt wire rope clips which you can pick up at any hardware store for about .60 to .70 cents each

Here is a link that shows you a picture of it. This was the best picture I found online so disregard their price. The price on this site is probably for a contractor's pack that has hundreds. You can get them in galvanized or stainles steel. I like the rough industrial look of the galvanized (it's more appropriate, I think). If you like the stainless steel, they cost a few cents more. I think the size was 3/16 but it might have been 5/16. I am at work right now, but when i get home i can tell you exactly what size i used and even the sku and manufacturer. I picked mine up at Lowe's but you can find them at home depot or any hardware store. However, i must warn you that not all wire rope clips are equal, so don't buy them at OSH since those tend to break with very litlle pressure.

When i get home i will post pictures of my set up and give you al the info of the exact brand i used.

The black Corsair is from Forces of Valor. They are nice and will run you about $12 at target or toys r us. Here is the best picture i could find right now:

The japanese plane with the arrow is a Nakajima Ki-84 Frank from IXO. Here is a pic (scroll to the middle):

Hope this helps.
