Re: Anybody collect patches

My bro has alot of patches from the Navy...I had that one right there at one time and have no idea where it went.
I need to get another one of the Thief of Baghdad patch since a F-14 is being made of that Tomcat soon.
I just started putting the patches next to my models that it represents.

Re: Anybody collect patches

I try to put unit and squadron patches with models of the aircraft. I also have some in with framed photos of vets, and some random ones through out the game room.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Anybody collect patches

Definately began collecting patches a while ago, used to have a few when I was younger, but really got into patch collecting again when the Tomcat retired. I have the VFA-103 Transition Time Baby, Tomcat's Last Cruise Beginning (Tomcat Double Ds) and the Final Cruise End patch. Also have a few more, but those are my favorites. Patches are a nice and relatively inexpensive way to add another touch to one's collection.

Re: Anybody collect patches

I likened it to collecting postage stamps. I have several from USAF and Navy Squadrons. My favorite is a patch of an F-111 with the inscription "Warsaw Pact Central Heating".

Yeah, I have that one also, as I wore it for a while, on special occasions, when flying Varks at Lakenheath. After a while, the Wing Commander outlawed them, at least in public settings. So I also have another "allowed" version that looks identical (mushroom cloud and all), but says "48th Fighter Wing" instead of "Warsaw Pact Central Heating."

Re: Anybody collect patches

I used to have about 700 patches, but I found that I had accumulated a ton of them without them meaning anything to me, so I sold most of them. I have kept only the patches from squadrons or units that I have personally associated with professionally.

Nice patch, though!

Re: Anybody collect patches

Fortunately, my family still has my grandfather's 75th Fighter Squadron patches from his leather flying jacket. He cut them off and preserved them when he got home. But, he wore his leather flying jacket as a everyday lawn care-car care-motorcycle-riding jacket, so it is in less than perfect condition. But, we still have it.
