Re: UPDATED Starman's Collection

A couple of days ago Lorraine dragged me off on a shopping trip, aargh!

On the good side there is a small diecast shop in the Mall we went too.
While Lorraine was trying on various items I sneaked off for a look see.
A poor selection but I did see an FM FW190 on display in the shop window, I was very impressed and nearly bought it.
I don't normally go much for FM models but this looked something real special.

I was surprised to see P38s on sale at £9.99 each, oh and the Finnish Gladiator at £20.
Everything else was at full retail.

How did I get onto this subject? Oh yes Starmans FM collection.

Apart from the Spitfires and P40s FM seem to have upped their game, The FW I saw and those planes of Starmans really look like first class diecast to me.
Now I am begining to wish I had picked up that FW190, hmm ,wonder if I should go back and get it?

God Bless America.

[quote=1:48 Franklin Mint planes are very nice all pad printed tampos no decals ...just the way i like it.[/quote]

I have a couple of SpecCast and Yat-Ming: big fellas. My first Franklin Mint was MoonBeam McSwine; then I got Jersey Jerk. Now I have Joanne (P-40N), Tex Hill from EI and also Patti Ann.

Room is hard to find, but I have my little supply of 1:48's--like my 1:100 and 1:144. They all seem to get along with each others....

Re: UPDATED Starman's Collection

The O.D. is correct. THe aircraft was painted all O.D. over gray at one time, and they just left that part when returning the aircraft to NMF.

But doesn't the current Fighter Collection aircraft have the black?

Nice NGNG.. I was considering picking one up, but couldn't decide since I have a built Tamiya Jug.

Re: UPDATED Starman's Collection

This aircraft is a repaint... not the original NGNG. MD suggested that OD is correct, because the the original NGNG was stripped of its OD to NMF in the field. This is possible. However, my research of the 458th BG suggests this generally was not done. If an aircraft arrived in the field in OD/gray it remained that way until out of service. If it arrived in the field NMF, it also remained that way. Nevertheless, this is one example of one group in the 8th AAF, and a heavy bombardment group at that. It seems to me that I have read of fighter groups doing repaints in the field (for example applying OD over NMF). I have never heard of the practice of stripping OD to NMF though. But, MD may be correct.

Yeah, I know it's a repaint and not the original -- but assumed that the folks doing the repaint had some pretty solid evidence for doing it that way... but who knows, I guess. With the lack of good color vintage pics it's hard to tell. Dragon does Chuck's mustang with a green anti-glare, and GMP does it in black...??

Plus, there are exceptions to all the rules, right Didn't Bud Anderson have his O.D. Mustang stripped down to bare metal finish in the field, leaving the OD for the anti-glare as MD suggests -- if memory serves I recall a story about Bud sort of saying somthing offhand about wanting it done after a mission and then the crew stayed up through the night to get it done, stripping off the OD with gasoline, by hand.

Regardless, I guess I should just be content with the fact that I like the look of FM's better and leave it at that! I've ruined a few FM models by looking into such things too much
