CW Weapons Racks

Hey, I'm looking at my moonlighter A-6E and wondering if its bombs can be taken off their racks. I don't want to break it but as mentioned here the fuel tanks and FLIR can be interchanged. I'd like to make it look like its back from a mission with empty racks. Are they glued together or is it a really tight fit like the tanks and FLIR pod? Don't want to try anything unless someone has done it before haha.

PS: Did anyone else have trouble fitting the pilots in together? When I close the canopy the frame bumps one the their arms and makes them lean forward. Right now I have the nav/bombardier leaning forward "flicking switches" haha.

Re: CW Weapons Racks

I don't have the A-6e model, but they look very much removeable on this picture. Pic from tricatus UK webiste.

I don't know anything else about though sorry.

Re: CW Weapons Racks

I don't have an A-6, but the A-7 has near-identical parts, and they come off easily enough. They're not really designed to (they're glued), but they will. Wiggle and slowly pry---front-back-front-back-front until they let go.

However, you won't quite be left with an 'empty rack'-----there'll be "extra plastic" that is used to go in the slots molded on the bomb to hold them on. If you really want it to look right, you'd need to do some trimming afterwards.

Or, you might just pull the bombs off and leave the racks as is---it's not THAT noticeable. And it would allow the bombs to be put back on in the future---they'll press-fit on well enough to hold.

Ohh, I'm sorry I didn't know that you were talking about removing the bombs from the racks.. I thought you meant removable from the model

FORCERECON85:

I have the A-6 "Last Flight" and had trouble putting the crew in, too. I used Elmer's glue to stick them in place so the canopy would close without bunching them together crookedly.

Re: CW Weapons Racks

I don't believe that the bombs are removable.

They aren't removable neither in my AJ 500 (VA-35 A-6) nor AJ 300 (VA-82 A-7), except the entire rack and MERs.

In the Corsair, the Shrike rack isn't removable as well, but the missile.

Re: CW Weapons Racks

Well I took off all 24 500lbs bombs off my VMW(AW)-332 A-6E Intruder. Word to the wise, if you do decide to take weapons off their racks make sure you mark which bomb goes on each rack and each space on its rack. I want the bombs back on and its hell doing trial and error with 24 pieces haha.
