Re: Wow, opened my 1st CW WOW

I kept listening to you all raving about these CW birds but have resisted getting into the tailburners for the most part but then they made the A-7s and I really liked that particular jet so i broke down and got Fist of the Fleet and it is fantastic! I have now pre-ordered the new 1/72 JR F-14 and can't wait to get it so once again thanks to forum members here I am hooked!!

See, that's exactly what happened to me, too!

Stay away from their Intruders, Hurriup -- they're even better!

The feeling is contagious. After getting my Tomcat Free Lancers, I immediately followed up with the Jolly Roger. Just placed an order with Kingpin for more Intruders and Corsairs....all in a space of 1 week!

Re: Wow, opened my 1st CW WOW

Even if they don't make the same planes you can still compare the quality of the paintjob, the amount of detail and the the quality of the applied markings(tampos).
You can also judge the quality of a model by the way it's build and how well the optional parts fit.

Well, apparently both companies use the same factory from what people have said on this forum. So I'd expect they'd equally be high or equally low. Its just that now that HM has produced a plane that was in a similar scheme to CW. In my opinion, HM was always up there so I don't think much has changed in terms of overall quality. As for price, it can only go up from here for both companies.

Re: Wow, opened my 1st CW WOW

plus, they are made in the same factory with similar processes for panel lines, etc. Can't say for sure until the make the same plane, which I doubt they ever will though.

Corgi and HM launched a few models (Hellcat,Dauntless,Avenger) which were made in the same factory.Still this caused a heated debate ! Some preferred the Corgi's others went for the HM's.
Coming out of the same factory doesn't mean they are mere duplicates!!!
I have always been a fan of CW and I also have a few HM models, which I always regarded just below'CW quality' ,hence the term GAP, I used in a previous thread.
But now with the HM's latest creation;thePhantom I think IMHO they are on a par!

Yes but william said the same process was used for the HM panel lines as was used for the CW models, which I should have clarified. So there may be more commonality between the two brands in terms of manufacturering process.

Yes, i'm pretty sure its up to the company to decide what to paint the aircraft. I remember people raving on about the quality of the SBD, Mig-21 and Ju-87 when it came out. The same sort of comments people say about CW's aircraft.

Re: Wow, opened my 1st CW WOW

The HM F-$ certainly does close the gap quite a bit but CW still is a bit better in detail. But its just the final fine detailing that makes a difference. Certainly if HM did go the final step on the minute weathering and missile detailing and pitot tubes/antennas they would be equal. the bang fo rthe bucks is definately on an equal footing now. I hope CW is paying attention and really giving thought to the competative factor now. Up til now no one has really equalled them on the quality for the the dollar cost as HM has stepped up to.
Still, I would rather spend the extra 10 to 20 dollars to have the absolute best model than look at one and think " what if they just had added this little detail here..."

Re: Wow, opened my 1st CW WOW

I really think HM equaled CW when they introduced the Phantom. Tomcats have their problems including the wrong angle on the vertical stabilizers and forward fuselage gap. Corsair IIs have an intake seam and the rear landing gear are too long. Do Intruders have any issues? Phantoms only suffer from a slightly flat forward canopy and rear canopy hinge inaccuracy, otherwise they include all the fine details that the CWs have like antennae and probes as far as I know. I bet if you didn't know better, you'd swear the Phantom was produced by Century Wings. I think HM gives you much more bang for the buck than CW - $49 vs. $69 - I'll take HM (the only difference to me is the price). In fact, aren't CW models made in HM's factory? It's no wonder that CWs are so good!

Re: Wow, opened my 1st CW WOW

let's not forget the silver landing gear on the Steve Ritchie F-4. They are very nice but I am, personally, kind of tired of hearing about the ranting and raving about HM. I still feel CW produces a slightly better product. I am less than impressed with the HM Blue Angels A-4, to the point that I'm concerned about the F-4 that I have pre-ordered. Not the model itself but rather the quality of the paint. Again, HM is a great company but I just don't get the feeling from their models that I get from CW. Don't know why, I just don't.
