Has anyone else thought about repainting a CW aircraft?

I really am interested in having a 180th A-7 CW bird, but given the lack of AF birds and the chances of seeing one, I thought about maybe getting another A-7 and just painting a new livery over it. Mask off the cockpit area and just go at it with a new paint job. Just wondering if there are any other modelers here who have given thought to doing such for their own livery.

Tripoli, I don't have the guts due to the price of CW's but then again you're a better man than I am!

For starters, don't forget to remove the folded refueling probe from the starboard side and add the refueling receptacle to the port side wing root.

Good luck.....and don't forget to take lots of pictures!!!

If you really want to make an A-7D out of it, it'd take a lot of changes. None big, but quite a few. Remove this and that, add this and that... But acquiring a refueling receptacle is the biggest thing.

Re: Has anyone else thought about repainting a CW aircraft?

If I remember correctly, when CW first released pics of the A-7 pre-pros, there were both Navy and Air Force variants presented. I'd wait it out a few months before committing to something as drastic as repainting a $60 model. I doubt CW would go to the effort of molding the bits for an AF bird without ever using them.

I think it was Tundra that did a really neat F-16I conversion from a dragon F-16

Re: Has anyone else thought about repainting a CW aircraft?

not a total repaint but some pretty heavy work,

the pic makes the colours alot darker and stand out more but you get the idea, this plane was damaged and i repaired it so i didnt really mind painting it,

Re: Has anyone else thought about repainting a CW aircraft?

just a few washes and a little dry brushing with acrylic paints, i added a few oil stain details aswell,

im a terrible photographer so i dont know what happened to the colours but it looks a miilion times better in real life,

im thinking it was the super bright sunlight that makes it look different, i'll take another pic later and see if its any better

regards........kwiky

Whoa, I know the Navy isn't as prissy as the Air Force about keeping their aircraft nice and shiny but who knew cleaning standards had dropped that low?!? Still looks cleaner than my neighbor's car though!
