Re: Which Tomcat comes next??

A B-model. Don't really care what squadron/markings, so long as it's a B-model. (Though I would pass on VF-211 and VF-11).

As for a Pukin' Dogs B----yes, but not the "museum" scheme. IMHO that's a fake scheme, as no fleet plane actually wore it and it's a weird mish-mash of low and high-vis because they didn't quite follow the instructions.

Gimme this (the final "real" CAG colors):

Or for other B's, including the world's only red-tailed Tomcat, and a much-requested low-vis:

Surely, if there's ANY plane that Century should be willing to "risk" a low-vis release on, it'd be a Jolly Rogers B model. If any low-vis could sell in big numbers, it'd be the Jolly Rogers, on a type of F-14 that hasn't been done yet. We all know their "colorful planes sell" argument, but this is the Jolly Rogers, and there aren't any B's yet.

And if they want color---no F-14B is more eye-catching than the red-tailed VF-101 show bird.

PS to Century---please please PLEASE give us some GBU-12's! I'm just about finished with my OEF Tomcat book, and they are reporting for some operations being *90%* GBU-12's. It is THE bomb for a Tomcat. Many squadrons only dropped 1 or 2 GBU-24's in the entire operation but several hundred GBU-12's *per week*---yet Century gives us GBU-24's and no 12's. It's like giving an ASAT missile to an F-15 but no Sidewinders...

I've got the Red VF-101 in 1/80 scale

I think it was a co-operation between Hogan and Top Gun.
I can take some pics tomorrow.

Why all the interest in the toned down color schemes? I can't imagine a more boring collection than all models in that miserable frat color. They certainly will never grace my cabinets. Or is is that I'm just a Grumpy Old Man as I recall seeing them all in all their colorful glory in the 1970s and 1980s?

Because there's NO low-vis planes out there. When the collection is currently 100% CAG's, the all-grey one will be the one that stands out and catches the eye.

Ditto!
Nothing wrong the color birds, but more than a few of us would like some low viz birds to mix things up.
David is correct, out of all the modern Naval birds produced in 1/72 scale by all brands theres nothing to choose from but CAG birds.
Just imagine if it were that way for Air Force jets & all you could buy were special one off anniversary or tiger meet schemes.

I'll have one of those low-vis Jolly Rogers please! Absolutely agree, we NEED some low-vis birds.

Re: Which Tomcat comes next??

I like this discussion. Heck I love any discussion on Tomcats!!

As far as my reasoning on which Tomcats come next. I really think VF-1 Wolfpack and VF-2 Bounty Hunters in the 70's schemes come next or at least will be released. Because they're colorful, well noted, come together in a pairing on the same aircraft carrier, and have some sort of historical significance of being the first two Tomcat squadrons.

As far as what I would like to see from CW, I would love to see VF-213 CAG, VF-33 Starfighters black tails, and both VF-1 and VF-2. Maybe CW would make a package set for them. T'would be great.
