Re: F-14 Missile pallet poor fit fix ???

I never saw you as the "harbinger of doom" type, Cardo. In this instance I have to agree with you though. Hopefully CW comes out with a VF-1 and a lo-vis VF-84 Tomcat before they're $100 a pop.

Thanks Canucklehead - I think ... . I'm merely being a realist .

Sometime back I mentioned that I thought we were in a diecast 'golden age' of relatively inexpensive diecast, which I now believe is passing into the sunset. On a positive note, I think a diecast 'golden age' of higher quality, but more expensive models is likely to be the way of the future, where we end up collecting less of what will be a premium product .

One sheep to rule them all ...

Re: F-14 Missile pallet poor fit fix ???

Hello guys,

Thanks for all the advice, i think I will try the "heat and bend" technique first before I use glue. Although white glue should prove easy to remove, but I wish these components did fit better.

On the note of high prices, I must agree. While the Century Wings have set new standards for quality and accuracy in the diecast realm, their models are getting quite expensive. Trust me, I'm no financial whiz, but I would not be surprised if the prices of their models keep rising, you get what you pay for certainly. At some point I may not be willing to pay $80.00, $90.00, $100.00 $???.?? for a Century Wings model. Time will tell, but hopefully they won't price themselves out of business...

Smartd, some difficult times may await you with regard to your diecast collecting - prices are going to get progressively more expensive in the foreseeable future ...

Of course, like everything else prices will rise and we will continue to be gouged and I will continue to bitch about the price and the quality. And I probably will continue to buy them.

Re: F-14 Missile pallet poor fit fix ???

Hi,

I attempted the heat & bend with mixed results, a little bit better. Perhaps this this will be one of the rumored fixes on the upcoming re-release of the Jolly Rogers F-14, which I too have pre-ordered. at that new $69.99 price tag. I bet we will eventually see $100.00 1/72 diecast models from Century Wings.

Well, prices for raw materials and shipping ARE rising, but the main issue is that the US Dollar is falling at the same time, so Dollar-based collectors may have a harder time than Euro-spending ones?

I attempted the heat & bend with mixed results, a little bit better.

I have attached the pallets to two CW models and one FOV Tomcat. I "overbent" or exaggerated the bend and achieved a MUCH better fit. I have worried each time that I was stressing the plastic beyond its capacity, but have yet to break or damage when properly heated.

Re: F-14 Missile pallet poor fit fix ???

Yeah--don't attempt to bend the pallets to the "correct" shape---they won't hold it. Go way beyond what you want, then when they 'relax'---hopefully it will end up in the shape you want.

PS--of the 3 planes (thus 12 pallets) I've bent, I did get a hairline crack in one of my Sundowner's. But I was going faster that time (it was my 2nd F-14 I'd done, so I figured I knew what I was doing----found it's much better to do many small bends, than a few larger ones)

Thumbs up Re: F-14 Missile pallet poor fit fix ???

Thanks for the tip David. I haven't tried fixing any of mine because they're not on display yet but I do have a Sundowners one so will be checking it out.
