Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

I am wondering if anyone out there with connections to CW, or not, has any news on the F-8 Crusader? I am just surprised there has been no new information on the CW website since the December announcement. Is there someone who has knowledge of schemes, details, release dates, etc.? Enquiring minds want to know...

Re: Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

I wonder if they are re-tooling the proposed F-8 in order to make a CVW-8 (Nimitz "Final Countdown") RF-8.

(I hope so because I have space for one more plane on my "Nimitz" shelf)

one can only hope, right?

I surely hope that CW will do some Marine Crusaders as there are many good schemes to choose from.

Re: Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

A friend of a friend of mine saw Feris Buler at 31 Flavors last night, and he says they are already here. Its the distributor thats holding them waiting to jack the price up. I swear its all true.

You guys are so cynical. The CW distributor is actually really good about getting them to the stores quickly! So don't blame Eric at the Flying Mule!
I bet we will hear some news shortly. It seems that we usually hear something abot 4-5 months before the model is released.

Cheers!
Jeff

I hope the same, since it would give me a perfect reason to order also CW´s Moonlighters´ A-6. (I would still prefer an RF-8, but as David H. said, there´s no plastic kit of an RF-8 to copy).

Didn´t know though that an F-8 was able to carry so many bombs (so far I thought just one Mk. 83 under each wing was possible?)

I once saw a "resin kit conversion" for an RF-8 variant from a Fine Scale Modeler ad, but I can't remember who the garage kit maker was.
Anyway, what is to stop Century Wings from doing an RF-8 variant anyway???

It's NO rocket-science even with or without an available kit to base it on!

My take is they are working on this and that is why the long time to reveal the model. This would give them the RF-8 needed for an AJ on the Nimitz to complement their other models.

Because no diecast military manufacturer makes/designs their own stuff. Here's how it goes: They (Century, Hobby Master, etc) decide to make a model. They buy whatever plastic kit they want to copy, and send it off to the factory in China. They tell the guy "build this, then make a mold to copy it in diecast". The guy copying doesn't know that plane AT all. Doesn't know if it's from the 50's, or 90's. Bomber, or fighter. US, or French. Doesn't know if there's any major errors----He just follows the directions (poorly, if it's for a DW or Witty Tomcat), glues it together, then copies it. They also send along some decal sheets, and say "make some tampo pads to copy these markings".

If you tell him "now make it a recon version"-----he will be beyond lost. He doesn't know what needs to be changed. Nor, frankly, does HM/Corgi/DW/Century. (Though Yoshi does seem to know the F-14 pretty well, which helps a lot) And slipping the guy in China a 3-view from Janes won't help much.

Also, the RF-8 is one heck of a conversion. Everything between the wings, and everything forward of the main gear bay, is new. It's not "add a bump here, and an antenna there".
