Re: Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

Could be that folks might just like to see it in a done in more than just the standard variant. It would be similar to doing only one variant of an FW 190 or P-51.

Is there no difference between the E, J and P models announced earlier?

Yea tried that and couldn't see the major differences. Thats why I asked. If I knew what I was looking for maybe the light would go off. But every picture I googled looked pretty much like every other F-8.

Re: Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

Your correct. DH's process is a bit off. Here's how it goes....

Century Wings, Hobby Master etc are small marketing firms employing typically 6 to 12 people. They obtain licensing, at substantial cost, to produce diecast models of particular aircraft, tanks, etc, made by Boeing, Airbus, Northrup, Grumman, etc. Then, they outsource product design, pattern making, prototyping and production to a manufacturing company in Hong Kong or China. The overseas manufacturer is provided research materal, from CW, HM, etc. and then, the overseas manufacturer builds a model, called a pattern, from their own designs. While other companies model kits may be used for research in creating the designs and pattern, they are not exact duplicates of the plastic model kits. It would violate US and European copyright laws if the overseas manufactuers simply "recast" a model kit, from another company without permission, and that would prevent CW, HM, Corgi, etc, from selling their products in the US and Europe.

I know of several armor resin makers that copy with slight modification and sometimes outright copy plastic model parts for their products and they sell world wide. How is this differnt from the diecast world?

Re: Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

Recon vs fighter F-8's: Fuselage cross section. From head on, a normal F-8 is oval/circular, depending on exactly where you cut it. But a recon one has a squared belly. Right angles at both lower corners. Both lower sides and the belly are flat (to accomodate the flat panes of the camera windows) Everywhere from the main gear forward is all-new compared to a fighter. You can't see it from the side that well. But in cross-section (or head-on), a square vs a circular fuselage is fairly obvious. (plus a lot of other little shape changes, like the "behind the canopy bulge" that the RF-8 has) Another big thing is that the fighter F-8 has a very large, obvious bulge on the port side where the refueling probe is housed. The RF-8's refueling probe is totally internal, with no bulge on the fuselage side.

Thanks David! Now that is what I was looking for, broke down Barney style.

as long as it comes with missiles or bombs i'll be happy, if we did get a recon bird i'd still end up gluing some ordanance on there anyway, full ordanance load FTW!!

Re: Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

What the blazes is this facination with aircraft associated with a movie? There are enough operational units to offer a wide selection of markings. VFP-63 operatede nothing but RF-8s which were operated in small dets on every WESTPAC cruise and were appropriately coded to fit in with the boarded Air Wing. Even its BiCentennial schemes were all different. The Marines three composite squadrons were all equipped with RF-8s until replaced by RF-4Bs.

Re: Anyone out there have any news on the F-8?

Personally, I'm looking forward to the straight F-8E/J/P, and plan to buy at least a USN, USMC, and dark gray French Navy variant. As for the RF-8, there are plenty of schemes, though the Final Countdown one would be pretty cool. I'd also like to see a Cuban Missile Crisis RF-8A, and a low vis 80s RF-8G. If these different models are made, I'll settle for a half a squadron (6) different Crusaders, unless other cool F-8 schemes are made (ie a real checkerboard VF-211 1973, and Dick Bellenger VF-162 1966). My preferred USMC livery is the most famous of all, VMFA-235's Bozo Nose.
