Re: What do you want for the next F-14?

I'll add VF-202 'Superheats' for the Texas factor.

Cooler pic of the same bird....

I've spent my money on strippers, diecast airplanes and camera gear. The rest, I've wasted.

Re: What do you want for the next F-14?

More than anything, I would like an F-14B, especially one in low vis.

For me, the ultimate would be an F-14B in VF-143 colors from about 1999. If more garish colors are neccessary, I would love to see the beautiful blue tailfins of VF-32, again on an F-14B. The blue stripes on the 2004 VF-143 F-14Bs (D. Hington's suggestion) look strange to me, so I'd just as soon see things go in a different direction. I would definitely be willing to buy a red-tailed 95-97 VF-101 aircraft, another of Hington's suggestions. I would also be happy with a VF-103 aircraft, Jolly Rogers vintage, but I think I prefer other schemes. I would get very excited about an early VF-1 paintjob, particularly the one mentioned by Dobber, but only if the aircraft was an accurate reproduction of the early block F-14As.

If we are talking about simple repaints, I would be interested in the low-vis 2004 VF-2 look (but definitely not the similar but very colorful 2000 version), the 1980s VF-101 scheme, the late 80s VF-124 Gunfighters as Starman 352ND suggests (although I would buy only one bluetail), any paintjob from VF-142 (especially the gaudy mid-late 70s version!), or the 1997 VF-211 scheme.

Since this is already a long post, I'll also take a moment to specify the ones I DO NOT like. First is the list is anything with a black radome: no VF-31! Also not a fan of the adversary/PMCT/NSAWC/other aircraft, the Iranian birds, or for that matter the all-black VX-9.

WOW! Love the Superheaters Texas version paint scheme. Of all the ones I have seen, that one piques my interest by far the most.

Talking My Short List!

Hello everyone!
I have been a lurker here for a wfew months and now its time for a post! Of course there are lots of awesome schemes out there, and yes i wish i had a model for everyone but the few i really want are listed below.
VF-1 Pre deployment With the black anti glare that is wrapped around the whole canopy!
VF-2 Bu158985 Cag when it had the 5 coloured stars on the rudder.
VF-21 in Cag bird from 1991
VF-31 Cag from 1997 If only it had the white snow bottom like what Armour did on its version in 48th scale!
VF-32 Swordsmen Cag from 1990 with the Nig 23 kill markings on the nose and the coloured swords on the rudders.
VF-32 1976 bicentenial scheme

There is part one! Part two i will come up with another batch of 6.

Theres my Short list. I will track down some photos of each and try and post later. Or if somone out there has themn handy post away!
Cheers

Re: What do you want for the next F-14?

There's a lot of VF-143 options. There's the final CAG, which is like the scheme I posted but with very dark blue instead of the bright blue. (I like the bright blue simply because it's so different from everything else). Also, many of the low-vis birds picked up insignia blue striping and tail markings mid-way through their last tour, so they're in a low-vis/high-vis hybrid scheme---numbers 106 and 111 for sure I think, maybe 102 as well. Then there's also the gloss gull grey retro scheme, which I am not particularly fond of. (Just do an actual 70's plane then, instead of retro) Plus this not-too-well-known A-model scheme: (Though I still want bright blue B-model above all else)

If you want a Texas bird, I like VF-201's markings better than 202's.

For VF-124, I like their delivery scheme---one of the few F-14 schemes with wing and stab striping. (VF-32 did it too) (I have to hook up my scanner and scan some pics to show off this scheme, will post later)

VF-142---I'll take anything with a bit of color from them--they're "on the list" of ones I'd like to have, but not real high on the list.

Still, I really want at least one LOW VIS plane before any more CAG's. VF-103 or VF-31 please. VF-103 is the most "colorful" of the low-vis planes due to the vagabond striping and the dark grey tailfins. VF-31 are the Tomcatters, and the last F-14 squadron. And are the most low-vis of all low-vis F-14's--if you want bland and grey, nobody's better. VF-2 ties VF-103 for "colorful" low-vis, but I'd rather have 103 or 31.

LOW VIS!!!!!
THIS is what the Jolly Rogers look like, not black and yellow! Here's half the entire squadron:

Re: What do you want for the next F-14?

David, I saw the VF-201 and it would grace my shelves, but the Texas on the tail is wonky. I built that VF-142 ship back in the early-90s and was one of the last plastic kits I assembled.

For some reason, I can't find a pic of the jagged, 2-tone lo-vis camo scheme I've seen elsewhere. That would be cool on a model.

Never seen this one before either...

That was the proposed Super Tomcat to compete against the Super Hornet

Re: What do you want for the next F-14?

Jagged 2-tone------are you talking VF-201/202 specifically, or are you talking about the experimental Ferris schemes?

This is the best pic I could find quickly, both VF-1 and VF-2 had ones painted up in variations of the scheme.
