Re: I guess it's official

well gents,

Looks like I too will now be able to own one of the Jolly Rogers F-14's, However I have to say that $69.99 is pretty steep in my humble opinion. For that amount of money, the model should have movable flaps and a second set of compressed landing gear so that it can be displayed in the launch configuration, along with many choices for armament. I must say that without a doubt the Century Wings aircraft are the finest 1/72 scale models I have seen, but that is getting to be a lot of cash. Worth it most definitely, but...

Re: I guess it's official

For my two cents, I'm going to have to apply the selective process, and pick my favorites. Since I do not own a Jolly Rogers of any sort, I took the jump and Pre-Ordered mine yesterday. It will sit nice next to my Black Aces F-14. Besides that I think that CW makes a killer diecast of modern day jets. I would have to say that at $69.00 would be the cap for me in terms of price. I'm glad I jumped on the A-6 Intruders when I did. I would also like to add that the dealers that are offering a nice Squadron Patch and T-Shirt is a nice incentive as well to compensate for the price increase. I just picked up some patches of the A-4 / A-6 squadrons that I supported and paid close to 7.00 a piece.

Question Re: I guess it's official

I'm glad you guys clarified the VF-84 "D" situation. Now I'm even more satisfied I got my Grim Reapers "D".

Does anyone have any idea/details as to the mold improvements the new Jolly Rogers will have?

I think thats a great idea. CW take note. I think the extra landing gear, few fixes to the mould mentioned earlier and the ability to display six Phoenix missiles would help justify the price hike.

Re: I guess it's official

That's far from being 1978 colors though. I'd guess around 1989-1990 for those markings. And that's certainly not the "original" 201. VF-84 was one of the first TARPS squadrons and the 1977-1980 planes were gotten rid of.

Re: I guess it's official

I 'm not sure what to think about this release. Its great that CW came out with another Jolly Rogers with a limited run, but at $10.00 more than there already high price. And the way they seam to be getting gobbled up. I believe CW new there was a demand for this aircraft, put out another JR up the cost to make a few bucks, OK supply and demand free market and all that. What has me worried is that if CW sees that collectors are willing to pay this cost might they up there cost on all new releases. Retailers are already showing a higher list price then are marking them down as if on "special" on some new releases.
Just a thought and hopefully only a thought.

Re: I guess it's official

It seems that from now on every CW release will be atleast 70bucks a piece. glad I got most of their models at under 60, as I dont have any plans in getting the F-8s.
