Re: I guess it's official

From TheMotorpool:

"Century Wings Revisits the F-14
While news on the armored front seems to have reached a standstill, there doesnt seem to be a shortage of new product announcements for our aviation brethren. Century Wings will apparently offer a new version of the F-14D Tomcat, once again based upon a bird attached to the VF-84 "Jolley Rogers". Word has it that only 1,000 pieces will be produced and the aircraft will come bundled with a numbered certificate of authenticity. Due out in July, the new bird will feature a variable geometry wing, so the plane can be displayed in-flight or in a takeoff position. Based upon sales velocity of the first Jolley Rogers warbirds, this will certainly become another coveted addition to any aviation enthusiast's collection. Its important to point out that the first Jolley Rogers F-14s have sold in excess of $200 in after market venues and that this new version isn't simply a rehash. The new 'Cat will sport a different identification number and we hear that they've improved its fidelity, making it even more detailed than its predecessors. With only 1,000 pieces scheduled to be turned out, we're highly recommending that this fleet defense fighter join your growing arsenal....[posted 3/17/2008]"

Re: I guess it's official

I'll be curious to see if this is actually true.

Why not modify the mold to make a B or another D instead?????????????????????????????

Re: I guess it's official

Thanks guys. It's o.k Trex you can still sell it to me or I'll trade you one of the Black Aces or perhaps the 201 when it comes. That way we can both diversify. I would love to have a matching pair with different plane numbers! Today is a wonderful day. Serious about that offer let me know. Sadly come August the JR F-14's are all going to be worth $69.99 for a little while until the last limited release disappears and then the game is on again and the scalpers will start scalping.

Louie, I'll seriously consider it. For now, I'm just going to take a deep breath and try to screw my head on straight from all the wild over-spending in the last couple months......SBD's, Corsair II's, Tomcats, Franklin Mint clearance deals, Hot Toys figures.....I'm reeling, my junk room's a mess and the wife might just kill me if she see's the receipts!!

Re: I guess it's official

Has to be a typo, as there is no such thing as a VF-84 F-14D, not even a fictionally-painted gate guard AFAIK. (there is a VF-103 F-14D out there now, which is just wrong in so many ways--kind of like the VF-103 F-14A--but at least that one was actually painted by 103)

Hmmmn. Their VF-84 releases are probably about the most physically perfect of their F-14's, though IMHO there's a few things off in the paint. I don't really think the MOLD could be improved. But if they make the paint more truly 1978 (despite their claim, Century really makes 1979) I might sell my AJ200, so as to have a 1978 version.

I concur. It will not be a D model. I'm excited about this one. We were told to order early. They are almost sold out of pre-orders at the distributor before it even went public! As for the mold, what I heard was that it will be similar to the others, just that CW has had time to perfect their art.

I can think of a way to improve it: replace the rubber aerials and pitot tubes with photo etched metal and remove the flashing in the main gear. If CW did this, I would pay $80.00 for it.
