A-7 Corsair II Question

JUst got my CW A-7 and noticed that the bomb ejector racks can be put on both ways (with the bombs loaded to the inside or outisde)...different diecast sites show them in both positions....which way is "right" ??? any photos of actual aircraft to support which way ??

Thanks
Ed

Re: A-7 Corsair II Question

The Century WIngs site shows the bombs to the inside. This is possibly to allow safe firing space for the Shrike missile on the outboard stations, but I'm not really sure...

Re: A-7 Corsair II Question

I was thinking that as well....so there would be room to safely clear the outboard pylons but I know that someone here will know for sure.

Re: A-7 Corsair II Question

Having the bombs outboard seems a lot more common.

Re: A-7 Corsair II Question

I agree that outboard seems more logical, and that's how I have my A-6 displayed. But when I looked I was able to find A-7 pics with bombs both inboard and outboard. I guess I'll have to check on the A-6 as well...

Re: A-7 Corsair II Question

Hold on, the CW site has the bombs inboard on the Marauder jet, but outboard on the Fist of the Fleet model. Which way DOES it go?!!!

Re: A-7 Corsair II Question

Any way is fine it appears---it's just that having the bombs on the outboard side of the MER is more common. There's pics of both configurations---there's just a LOT more pics of them outboard. (Interestingly, I've also found pics of A-7's carrying Shrike missiles on the inner pylons, and bombs on the outer ones--opposite of any pic of Century's)

Having them inboard AND outboard (a fully loaded MER) isn't very common due to sheer weight and drag---A-6's don't mind much, but the smaller A-7 starts having issues with THAT many bombs.

I do wish Century gives us some more variety soon. The F-14 came with enough weapons to do MANY different configurations, and 2 whole different weapon sets. The A-7 seems to have far fewer options (drop tanks or not, that's about it), and every release is the same. Where's the Rockeyes? Mk83's? Mk84's?

Re: A-7 Corsair II Question

Um guys, sorry to burst the bubble, but if you'd also notice on the CW Website, the shrike pylons are on backwards. So I wouldn't count on CW getting the photos right 100% for their website. Maybe the photographer isnt as interested in this stuff as some of us here.
