Defect on AJ210 VF-84 F-14

I must be the most blind person ever. I've owned my Tomcat for over 4 months and never noticed the most egregious error ever. On top of the intakes where there is the gray paint to represent safe walking areas my Tomcat only has the paint on top of the left intake and none on the right side. Anyone else have this issue? Now I gotta figure out how to correct. Decal or stencil and paint???

Ugh! This is so embarrassing!!!

Re: Defect on AJ210 VF-84 F-14

Now that is interesting. Don't the crew just use the left side anyways?

Just had a quick squizz at the pics of the models on the Flying Mule site and they all have them both sides. Looks like you do have a little bit of a problem there.

I don't think there was a safe walk demarcation on the starboard side of this particular aircraft was there? Mine does not have it nor do any photos I have seen of this version.

I wouldn't sweat it, Black Lion....I have pics of Tomcats with it on the port side only....My AJ210 is the same way.(as is the one shown on CW's site as well)

Re: Defect on AJ210 VF-84 F-14

Tomcats OFTEN had it on the port side only--since that's the only side where there's steps to get in the plane! I think most of Century's VF-84 planes are like that. If any have it on both, it's probably just that particular modex. Pics of AJ210 (the real one) seem to indicate it should be port-side only, though it's very hard to tell--I'm mainly going by the fact that there seems to be reflections/shine in that area---non-skid is completely matte.

PS--Super Hornets were like that up until recently---they all had it port-side only. But they JUST started adding non-skid to the starboard side as well. Legacy Hornets usually have it on both sides.

Re: Defect on AJ210 VF-84 F-14

Ahhh thanks gents! I appreciate y'all looking into this for me. I noticed that on some sites the AJ210 has two matt finish wing walks whereas some others it has one. Maybe photoshop touch up? But I did some research and saw pics of actual Jolly Rogers Tomcats from that era that only had the finish on the port side. I do feel better about my plane although I think it would have looked better if CW went ahead and painted the starboard side to match...even if it wasn't correct. Aesthetically it would have been better.....

Re: Defect on AJ210 VF-84 F-14

Hey, Black Lion, ever try mounting a horse from the starboard side? I think the P-39 & P-63 were the only two aircraft to have doors on that side. Port side, (larboard) seems to be chosen entry - exit way into most airplanes.

Black Lion - you wouldn't mind an inaccurately painted model if it looked better? Isn't accuracy more important than aesthetics?
