| CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J I've got two questions about CW's F-14: 1. In terms of detail, how does the CW 1/72 F-14 compare to the BBI 1/32 F-4J? 2. Does the CW F-14 have weathering? (based on the photos, the F-14 doesn't appear to have weathering) | ||||||||||||||

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J
I saw several C.W. F.14's in the OPEN shop-display cabinet last week (though I WAS paying more attention to their A.6's !) Definately looked straightforward (i.e. 'no-weathering') to me ! I was amazed just how good their A.6's look ![]()

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J Like most will tell you, CW's F-14's are the most accurate, most detailed diecast model in any scale, anywhere. I don't know the purpose of this comparison, but it'd be safe to bet that if a CW Tomcat was blown up into 1/32, it'd probably blow away the F-4J in terms of detail. Not to mention you're comparing a plastic model to a diecast one. The feel of a CW is like no other. CW doesn't weather their planes but they do have "inked" panel lines, which gives them sort of weathered feel. Many don't care for it, I personally like it a lot. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J FIGHTERPILOT1: I'm asking because the BBI F-4J is #1 on my "to buy" list. I'm thinking of adding the CW F-14 to the list. I'm not that familiar with diecast, but the FOV diecast tanks and planes I've seen in stores don't impress me. I'm wondering if the CW F-14 is a "must buy" like the BBI F-4J. Admittedly it's comparing apples to oranges (1/72 diecast vs 1/32 plastic), but I'd like to hear from owners of both jets. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J
From my POV, any large scale BBI plastic jets and props that have been done so far are very nicely and abundantly detailed with decent accurateness even for a toy. Comparing BBI to CW is like comparing "apples to oranges" scale-wise, but you already knew that. I wouldn't hesitate to get the BBI 1/32nd Spook for my simple reason that it is a really nice bird to display hanging from your ceiling, and hopefully a MiG jet model (to dogfight with) by 21st or BBI will be coming down the pipeline!

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J FLYXWIRE: Thanks. But how would compare the CW F-14--overall--to the BBI F-4J? (PS--thanks for the F-15E info. Based on your info, I decided against the F-15E---the money might be better spent on a CW F-14) | ||||||||||||||

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J you cant really compare diecast against plastic. century wings stuff is the best you can buy in diecast but the BBI phantom is probably the best ready built plastic model on the market it is not perfect but for the money its very good. the BBI phantom is also based on the tamiya 1/32 kit,it is almost indentical | ||||||||||||||

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J I saw the pictures of the BBI's F-4 and it seems that the front landing gear is backward. The latch used to attach the gear to the catapult is facing towards the back. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: CW F-14 vs. BBI F-4J I've looked at many photos of planes, tanks from 21st Century, FOV, BBI that are very impressive. But when I see the real thing in the store, they don't look as good---particularly diecast tanks. The photos I've seen of the CW F-14, mostly on this board, are fantastic. I was hoping to look at the F-14s in person, but my local dealer is online-sales only. I'd appreciate more comments on the CW F-14 and the BBI F-4J. (PS---I have a BBI 1/18 P-51 Mustang---it looks exactly like the photos---thank god) | ||||||||||||||
