Re: I got my VA-82 A-7!! What a beauty!!

I was comparing the fins (the black colored part in front) of the sidewinders of F-14 and A-7. The fins for those that came with the tomcat have a tip which is not found for those of A-7E.

Re: I got my VA-82 A-7!! What a beauty!!

so if something happens in ur today, does that mean it happened in my yesterday and hence shouldn't worry about it if i didn't worry about it yesterday??

See how fortunate you are?

Thanx for posting those pix, Andrew...

Overall it looks as though CW scores another hit with just a couple of nits to pick that I can see. The sucker seam that you already mentioned really is an eyesore and is rather disappointing, but not a deal-killer...The other pretty noticeable one, although in all likelihood it will be a non-issue for me as mine will probably be mounted gear up, is it sits awfully high on its mains.... Maybe cuz there's no engine in it?... ...The SLUF was pretty much a lowrider as can be seen in this photey.

Actually, they're Shrikes. HARMs wouldn't exist until the 80's. HARM and Shrike do look similar, and share the same purpose. ARM----->Shrike----->HARM. The ALARM is too close to really be a 'replacement' for HARM, more like an alternative that's SLIGHTLY newer.

PS--hey, it looks much more orange there. More pics of the orange please!

Andrew--are the Sidewinders and/or their pylons removable?

To be honest, I'm not really really sure, but I dont think so. I tried tugging at it from the head of the missile and only the head was bending. everything else was rock solid straight. But not really willing to have a crack at taking it apart....especially after reports like Cardinal's F-104J job...

THose look awesome. I got both of them on preorder. I think that CW should make Andrew and Dave technical advisors.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: I got my VA-82 A-7!! What a beauty!!

There are many different types of Sidewinders, with differently-shaped seeker heads and fins. The fighters of course got the highest priority for the newest/best types, so the A-7's etc were often stuck with older ones until the new ones were very common. (F-8's even got the rarely-seen radar-guided Sidewinder---F-8's can't use the Sparrow, so that was their only option for a radar-guided missile)

But the differences are fairly small and subtle, and I'd need very good/close pics to identify little plastic ones on a model.

with the range of the sidewinder, i can just imagine how useless that radar guided sidewinder would be in a dogfight. Though not sure how it would compare to the early sparrows that performed so poorly during the vietnam war on the navy birds

Thumbs up Re: I got my VA-82 A-7!! What a beauty!!

These pics should give some idea of how big the A-7s will be. The A-7, in these pics, is a 1/72 Italeri kit I built a few years ago.

That is one cool low viz scheme! I wonder when we'll being low vis from CW.
