Re: Keeping It Navy - Choose The Next Release II

I voted for the Vigilante. Until Century comes out with something other than a Navy or Marine Jet. I don't see them doing a Canadian anything or a USAF anything. Are they doing a F-4 or is it just speculation? All I know is what I see and thats a F-8 and 2 A-7's No new A-6's or F-14's COME ON CENTURY WINGS PROVE ME WRONG!!!

The CW F-4 becoming a reality is based on our strong collective MH2 speculation with no official word yet. You can blame zed if it never gets made! hehe

Vigi!....of course my greatest hope is that CW just stays on top of their QC efforts and doesn't start slipping like HM apparently is....If it means putting out new releases at a snail's pace, I'm good with that.

Re: Keeping It Navy - Choose The Next Release II

Did I miss any U.S. Naval fighter aircraft since the Korean War (not made or planned to be made by CW) other than the F4U Corsair, F7F Tigercat, and F8F Bearcat?

Hmmm... there is the Vought F6U Pirate-- a dud that may have been phased out before the war. Also, I believe the Cutlass was phased out prior to the redesignations in 1962, hence, I do not think there was an F-7. But I am sure you naval experts will correct me if I am wrong.

Good catch. Looks like F-7 was set aside for the Convair Sea Dart.

Re: Keeping It Navy - Choose The Next Release II

I'm going out on a limb and proposing the F11 Tiger. She was a right pretty airplane, the Blue Angels used her and she does have the "honor" if you will of being the only airplane to ever shoot itself down with it's own cannon. < lol >

On 21 September 1956 an F11F-1 Tiger, piloted by Grumman test pilot Tom Attridge, shot itself down while conducting test firings off eastern Long Island by running into 20 mm projectiles it had fired only seconds before.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Keeping It Navy - Choose The Next Release II

An F-11 in Blue Angels livery would be sweet alright...The Tiger was the first aircraft I saw the Blues perform in, and the only F-11s I've ever seen. Never saw a fleet one.

If an F-11 is chosen, I hope it's the long nose variant. The short nose one was goofy looking.

Very interesting! I learn something every day here! The F2Y SeaDart that never entered service became the F-7 under the new designation system five years after the project was terminated.
