Re: What Intruder schemes would you like to see.

I've been perusing my old copies of World Air Power Journal and just happened to pick up the Spring 1993 volume, which features the A-6/EA-6 and has a ton of photos. I'd like to see...

- YA2F-1/YA-6A pre-production prototype with da-glo orange tail, wingtips (no photo)

- Rare A-6A in a top-side dark green camo; belly, underside of wings were white and the bottom half of the radome was black. According to the caption, this scheme was evaluated in 1966 on Intruders from the Kitty Hawk, Constellation and Enterprise to hide from MiGs. (no photo)

- EA-6A (altered A-6A) ICAP II testbed, BuNo. 156482; all white with red/white/blue cheatline and tail flash with yellow lightning bolts on the tail pod and a black panther under the canopy (no photo)

- A-6F Intrder II prototype; all white with red-trimmed blue cheatline and tail stripe

- A-6 lo-vis 2-tone desert camo; Desert Storm era (unable to find a decent pic online)

- VA-34 "Blue Blasters" full-color logo on tail (ditto)

- VA-115 "Eagles"

- VA-196 "Main Battery" - This was one scheme I liked. The other (couldn't find it online) is a black spade in a red circle with the multi-color spades on the rudder.

- VMFA-533 "Hawks" blue tail/white hawk/checkered rudder

I've spent my money on strippers, diecast airplanes and camera gear. The rest, I've wasted.

Re: What Intruder schemes would you like to see.

Actual photos of that VA-196 scheme seem non-existant. I was only aware of that variation without the spades on the rudder. But I have found it was the reference for the decal sheet for Monogram's 1/48 kit, so there's quite a few pics of models with that scheme:

That would be the one I was referring to! Nice job.

Re: What Intruder schemes would you like to see.

I'd be surprised if the real one was actually red, I'd bet money on it being orange, and various decals/photos being off.

I'd like to see an Intruder done up in a ski mask scheme - sorta like the real ones

Intruders wearing ski masks are called Burglars

That's when they're not being murderers, rapists etc.

The aircraft in that first shot is now preserved on the U.S.S. Intrepid in New York City. It is still in those colors.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
