Re: CW Black Aces canopy issue

All my tomcats that i can remember require a pull forward to close, and a push back to open. I'm not sure if its an actual problem, because I think its kinda neat since the same procedure is required on a REAL tomcat canopy.

I didn't know that about the real tomcat (and agree that makes the CW model more cool), but it doesn't stay closed, which is a problem with the model -- and I would suspect, the real deal, too I'm going to apply the F--22 Canopy strategy to it later today, with a little help from some white glue...

...or box it up and send it back...

Thought about that, but I don't think this bird will ever leave my collection -- so I'm not going to bother asking for a replacement when a smidge of glue will fix it...(without worrying about "what if I sell it later")

Yeah, I always remember the scene when Maverick pushes the canopy forward to seal it in Top Gun while he gets ready for that final fight.

Re: CW Black Aces canopy issue

Well, I really don't think CW engineered the canopy to close that way for the sake of realism ( I could do just fine without the "coolness factor" of having to jam it tightly against the windscreen). If they did, they screwed up on my AJ210, because it closes down tight without the Maverick push...

...the "Maverick push" - nice! Is that like the "Elmer plug"?

Yes, just with not quite as much "cool factor".....Isn't it something that both Elmer and tank nut have plugs named after them?

Re: CW Black Aces canopy issue

Well, I put a smidge of white glue on the underside of the canopy and put her upsidedown on a flat surface while it dried... canopy stayed closed. I put the model in its stand on my desk for a few hours... canopy stayed closed. I put the model in the display cabinet and closed the door... canopy stayed closed...

Left the room for an hour or two and came back ... checked... canopy popped open again!

Back to the drawing board...

Might try shaving it down a bit where the rough spot is and perhaps a bit more white glue...

Ditto, thats how they work on CW models, if you dont do it like that they wont open or close correctly.
Unless it has some sort of defect.

I have two other CW Cats... and those open/close fine, so this is definitely a defect...
