Re: F-4 Phantom from CW?

I would think HM will modify tooling and do the latter model F-4's. I like CW but rather than having to choose a line halfway through a collection I would rather CW do F-18's and leave the F-4's to HM. I hate dropping one type to go for anothers line. I dropped FOV to go for CW's F-14. I bought a Dragon F-14 and hated it. I bought mucho Corgi F-4's now have hjad to sell them off. If CW did decide to do a Phantom hope they annouince it before I buy 10 HM Phantoms so i can be selective. I hope this post made sense I'm sleepy.

The reason I thought it would be a good idea for CW to do the earlier F-4B/N Phantoms is based on what David Hintgen said-- and that is that it would be no easy or inexpensive task to convert an F-4J mold to one for F-4B's and N's. If that is true, and from what I know, it probably is true, then there would be a considerable number of USN Phantoms and schemes that would not be released unless someone like CW stepped in to do them. It seems like it would be an opportunity for CW to tap into the considerable USN Phantom market without having to compete head to head with the HM F-4J. They would have the early USN F-4B/N market to themselves.

Re: F-4 Phantom from CW?

The main thing with the F-4B/N, is that it has a different wing from the C/D/E/F/G/J/K/S. The S has a modified J wing, similar to (but not identical) to a slatted version of the E wing (and there's 2 different versions of the slatted E wing). But the B/N has the entire inboard half different from the standard C/D/E/J. Ironically, the B is the original Phantom wing, and the N is just an upgraded B. The C introduced the new wing, which every subsequent version has as well and became the most common version. But the 'real', standard F-4 wing is comparatively rare and only found on the B and N.

I just want to see a really good F-4...Right now I don't really even care all that much if it's a B,C,D,E,F, G,HIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.....just so long as whatever it is, they get it right...

Just 5 more months until the Phantom II's 50th anniversary!

Anyways, here's the "simple" illustrated guide to the various F-4 models: 5057 Phantoms

Re: F-4 Phantom from CW?

Even though HM is doing F-4's, I think CW has to do the F-4 to properly complete it's line.
CW is doing all the popular cold war era USN fighters & attack a/c, to leave out the F-4 would leaving out the most recognized & popular a/c from that segment.
Also brand loyal collectors will by a F-4 to complement their other CW models, CW would miss out on a lot of $$$ not making a F-4.

Re: F-4 Phantom from CW?

To sum it up, I would certainly welcome CW entering their F-4 contestants (whatever variants they maybe) into the "2008 Phantom Craze" Olympics. It will be quite complimentary to Gemini Aces and HM 'spooks' as long as there are NO redundancy with schemes or liveries. That's my take on this whole thing....
