Re: Last AJ210 Jolly Rogers F-14A on the Planet!!!

I figured AJ200 to be the one everyone was trying to get. That and 210 are the non launch configurations, right? I have 210 downstairs and really didn't think much about it. Since there were 4 of these Jolly Rogers ones plus Dragon, FM, Revell etc, I'm surprised collectors don't have their fill.

Also surprised that 4 JR CW versions leave some wanting. Must be better than I thought. Really, the panel lines leave me a bit luke warm on the CW models.

I'm in agreement with you on the panel lines, Parsig, but I think we're in the minority by a long shot, which is kind of strange given the extreme amount of debate over HM for this issue... but go figure. Otherwise they are beauts though. I also don't get the big scramble for the 210 -- my guess is that it is the fact that it's the bird from the Final Countdown movie??? The JR scheme is also probably the most popular for the "mass market" -- I have AJ203 (launch config) and really like it for its uniqueness.

Might be a good time for you to sell that 210 and get something that you really like

Re: Last AJ210 Jolly Rogers F-14A on the Planet!!!

Funny you should say that guys I passed on it when I saw it because I did not like the lines and figured these models would be around a while. I did not pay attention to the production numbers back then. Since then my eyes were opened and almost too late. I can live with the lines and heck all the cracks and crevices on these working birds did seem to stand out after round the clock operations. Perhaps one of us brave forum members can figure out what substance applied to the models might remove the inked lines gently or at least lighten them. I figure if you want a plane may as well get the best representation out there. It could have been a Witty or Dragon but the quality overall got me hooked.

Maybe I am the only one here, but I like the "inked" panel lines. I don't think they are overdone on the CW planes at all. Without the lines highlighted, they look too smooth and toy-like for my tastes. The way I see it, after a little use, a real plane will gather dirt, grease, or what-have-you along the panel lines where it won't be wiped off. So to me, the highlighted panel lines look prototypical.

Man with prices like that, makes me want to sell mine. I noticed they increased the run on VA-82 by 500 pieces compared to other runs.

Personally I'm indifferent to panel lines on diecast now, because it seams diecast makers either over do them a little or dont do them at all.
This might be due to scale issues & other factors, nobody has it picture perfect when compared to real a/c yet.
I just don't understand why so many people bashed Hobby Master for having inked panels when they came out & yet the same people sweat CW even though they have panel lines that are as dark if not darker & larger.

I don't know, Phan...you may be right, but for some reason my eyes still focus on those HM lines and not the CWs. Maybe it's just the supreme excellence of the rest of the model that blinds me to its minor faults...Whatever it is, it's true, when I'm looking at my CWs I'm never thinking "if only it weren't for those nasty 'ol panel lines".....

If weathering were applied to the panels themselves I would probably agree with this -- most Tomcat service pics I've seen show some pretty darn dirty birds
