Re: Vx-4 Vandy 1

From what few photos there are of VX-4's black F-14A's, I'm going to guess this is 161444, not the better-known 159853. Basically, it's *a* Vandy One black bunny, but not the one most people know. It was flat, because it was painted with a temporary paint that also peeled off really quicky (similar to many F-14 "experimental" schemes).

Kinda surprised it turned out to be this one, and not 159853---since 159853 wore the colors for a while, and was permanently painted, and glossy. And more photographed and famous. Here's a nice photo of it:

I'll post a photo of 161444 if I can find one.

:edit: Here's the same one I have in a book (probably scanned from same book) If you look at the bottom of the left intake or the top of the glove, you can already see the paint peeling off, revealing the standard grey paint underneath. Possibly the only photo of this plane in black.

Re: Vx-4 Vandy 1

Yeah... I think at this point in time, eBay may be about the only source for finding one of these. Albeit, Century Wings models seldom make an appearance on "the Bay" however, if by chance a "Vandy 1" was to find it's way on there, I could only imagine the final outcome cost wise.

Aside from a fellow (lucky) forum member selling their's or the chance you have deep connection's with someone in the Japanese model market, eBay is about it.

Good luck in your search!

Re: Vx-4 Vandy 1

Welcome to the forum, TOPGUN5! I wish you good luck in finding that Black Tomcat as well.

That black VX-4 Tomcat will pair-up nicely with Corgi's F-4 and Dragon's F/A-18 TOPGUN black painted birds, imho.
