UNIMAX F-14s

Anyone know what's the difference between CW F-14s and Unimax ones? IMHO, CW's model sort of looks Unimax's one.....

Re: UNIMAX F-14s

Hi Aki,

There is a thread discussing their differences under FOV section. They are basically the same mold with CW F-14s having more refined features such as landing gears and the ejection seat handles, etc. But my question will be the particular year of the scheme as it looks like an earlier scheme yet the gun vent belong to the later version if I understand it correct from David.

Re: UNIMAX F-14s

Really it's the same model as the CW.
As said above there are just a few little differences that were refined later on the CW models.
The FOV model as exposed hinges on the canopy, the ejection seat rings are a little thicker & there is a tiny piece of excess plastic on the front landing gear by the wheel which was removed on CW models.

The FOV F-14 is a awsome model & only second to CW for those few details.
If you put the CW & FOV next to each other most people would not know the difference.
This is one of the most underrated models in the diecast world.
If you want a nice F-14 & your not super picky about a few little things it's a great choice, it will also save you $15-$20 over CW

Re: UNIMAX F-14s

I have both the FOV tomcats and the sit very nicely next to my three CW versions.

The Black Aces model looks very smart.

Re: UNIMAX F-14s

I have the FOV "Black Knights" displayed next to my CW "Jolly Rogers"....and frankly it's hard to tell the differences between the two unless you really compare them side-by-side.
If it's not for the much improved FOV F-14 molds over their ghastly first issue Tomcat (you should see that one up close)...CW would not have had a refined F-14 release to base their products with. So give credit where credit is due. I wouldn't hesitate to add another FOV F-14 on my stable!

Re: UNIMAX F-14s

For my first F-14, a while back, the retailer tried to push the FOV on me. I chose the Dragon because the FOV was so terribly done.
Now that I see the new issues, yeah, I'll re-consider.
Pix of them look real good. Those of you posting also have good things to say, thanks.

Re: UNIMAX F-14s

I actually brought the original FOV tomcat by mistake from ebay last year.

Yes it was awful although it did have a couple of nice features.

At least they managed to include a tinted windscreen.

Anyway - my ten year old nephew loved it so it wasn't wasted.

Re: UNIMAX F-14s

I will tell you this...When FOV first came out with the F-14's they were not very good looking in terms of todays F-14's they make.
My father still has one of their first F-14's and they have come along way..
