FYI, this bird is also in stock at Burbank's House of Hobbies and I saw it in person yesterday. I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on rivet-counter detail but it looks pretty impressive to me. The panel line detail and other features appear to me to be even better than prior efforts.

Mine should be here on monday!!! I can't wait to get Century's latest masterpeice!

Chris

P.S. David you must be stoked over the VF-111 release! Now we just need a VF-1 early A model with either the full beaver tail or the modified but NON production beaver tail.

Re: F-14D Tomcat VF-101 Grim Reapers AD164 are now in stock

All depends on how much research Yoshi does. There were a few VF-1 first-scheme F-14's out there with the full production beaver tail---that's a whole lot easier to model. Now I think both you and I would prefer the earlier beavertail since it's both different, and "iconic" of the early VF-1/VF-2 planes, but since that'd require an entirely new fuselage mold I don't know if they'd make it just for the few schemes they could do. Having a production-style one is better than no early VF-1 model at all. Need a nose-probe-less radome either way, though. Kind of ironic, that's the one scheme Dragon hasn't done with their probeless mold!

Also need earliest-style gun vents I think, maybe some were late enough to get mid-production gun vents.

Re: F-14D Tomcat VF-101 Grim Reapers AD164 are now in stock

Yup, I know exactly what you mean. It would round out the Century Tomcat line quite nicely, though, to have all the variants, but like you said unlikely. Personally, not counting the full production type tail(which looks best IMO) I like the Full beaver tail over the moded version, which looked "basically" like an over-sized full production version. Not sure, how long VF-1 or VF-2 flew with the full tail before they started hacking them, though. Which would you prefer?

Re: F-14D Tomcat VF-101 Grim Reapers AD164 are now in stock

I prefer "full" over "sides hacked off". From what I've read, they had all been "hacked" prior to leaving for Vietnam. Don't know about VF-124 though, which had some which were so early they even had the half-length gun muzzles. (And when they're that old, they probably have the early-style glove stiffeners too)

Re: F-14D Tomcat VF-101 Grim Reapers AD164 are now in stock

Got mine today. It's pretty, but the landing gear system on mine was super tight, especially the right side. I have to trim the landing gear and apply some silicon oil in order to loosen them. My CW's jolly roger was looser in comparison.

The panel lines are subtle and it's a big contrast to the glossy/shiny jolly roger, which makes me wonder if the jolly roger's panel lines are suposed to be that pronounced, especially on the underside.
