A-6E Weapons modification

Hi all,
I'm not sure if i mentioned this in another post somewhere before, but i did ask Yoshi about the accuracy for the weapons of the MER on the inner board pylons. His response was that you could easily do the fix yourself with a hobby knife. So I went and did just that. I removed 2 of the inside mk82 snake eyes with a hobby knife. Which turned out quite well, because now i've got some actual bombs I can put on my Super Hornet Vertical MER's.

Re: A-6E Weapons modification

Are the weapons glued on to a tab and you have to cut off the tab?

Re: A-6E Weapons modification

no, you don't cut off the tab. its more of using the knife to lever it out. do it gently so that it "snaps" off. They used white glue for it i think.

Re: A-6E Weapons modification

Andrew - is the bomb to be removed because it interferes with the landing gear door or is this bomb inaccurately positioned? Also, if white glue was used, I bet a little water dabbed on with a cotton swab would assist in its removal with the hobby knife.

The bomb is removed because of the landing gear doors. The glue looks like just normal plastic modelling glue. though i'm not a glue expert, i assume white glue is that of plastic modelling glue?

Re: A-6E Weapons modification

It looks like we need to remove TWO bombs (not one) per pylon based on that photograph. Do you see what I see? "White" glue is what "Elmers" glue is and can be disolved with water.

Re: A-6E Weapons modification

Can we simply configure the ordinance differently without modifying them? Can the bombs go on the outboard pylons and put either the fuel tanks or missiles on the inboard pylons? Would this set-up be accurate?
