Re: Best CW F14 Tomcat

VF-111 will be using VF-21 parts? That's about the best option I think. (Not perfect, but close) Which also means it'll look slightly different from either of the two samples we've seen so far.

::edit:: Wait, wait. Entirely VF-21, or will it keep the gun vents in the photo just posted? Because the VF-21 release had NACA vents.

Sigh, so many variations, so many pre-production samples and changes---hard to keep track of it all.

Re: Best CW F14 Tomcat

next two releases here in prepro form, note the sundowners version will be using the same casting as the VF-21 release.

That will be better i think too.
Now i'll i need to do is wait a few weeks longer and i'll have this baby in my collection.

Cool Re: Best CW F14 Tomcat

What would really be super cool would be internally installing two butane mini-torches so you could get real flames to shoot out from the afterburners.

Now That's a very, very cool idea.

Question Re: Best CW F14 Tomcat

Quite a few Tomcats have now been released and are about to be released. What's the consensus? What's the best CW F14 Tomcat?

I think this is almost like asking "What's the best color?"....everything else seeming to be equal, it just becomes a matter of personal preference relating to livery and weapons options.....I wouldn't kick a single one of them out of my collection. That having been said, I'm partial to the VF-111 Sundowners (for the moment anyway)

Re: Best CW F14 Tomcat

OK, I hear you Skunky, thanks. I have the Dragon Jolly Rogers and Vampires F14s and I can't figure out what I'll do with them once I order the CW. I fancy the Jolly Rogers and Grim Reaper with the different weapons loads. Sundowners looks really good too as well the VX4 bird. Choices! What I want to do is get one F14 and one A6 (500) at the same time to cut down on postage. Then there's the CWs birds still in the pipeline!

I have a Revell Tomcat, 2 Dragon Toms (sundowner and vampires), and a Witty Tom... and I just got two CW Toms (JR 203 and the Grim Reapers). Yes they are much better than those that came before. However, do they make me want to toss the rest out and just get CW? No...

When I see the difference parked side by side I can still keep in mind I paid 1/3 the amount for each of the others so the CW birds should be nicer.. but they all look nice together on the shelf I think, and again, I like the diversity. The Dragon Tom is the second runner to me, and those schemes you have are nice. So why not keep 'em and get a different livery or two from CW... ??

Just my opinion. If you are a real discriminating modern collector that prices model/variant accurancy above all else I can see the desire perhaps to purge the other makes once you get a CW.

(Definitely get the Grim Reaper though..... )

I only have two CW (and that's probably it for me for this mold) but judging from all the pics and mine I'd say the best CW Tomcat is simply the one you have... they're all nice!@

Thanks PappyB. You've given a great perspective. I contemplated using the two Dragons to finance the CW purchase or alternatively keep them and get different schemes. Sundowners and Grim Reapers for example. Cool low vis on the Black knights as well!
