A-6 control surfaces color

Are AJ-500's horizontal stabilizers supposed to be all gray or all white?

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

If it's a Navy jet with a white belly---the h.stabs should be white all over. A-5, A-6, A-7, F-4, F-8, F-14, S-3, etc.

Officially. H.stabs were the very first thing to be repainted grey when going to the original low-vis scheme, so who knows. I'll re-watch The Final Countdown and see if I can spot some of VA-85's planes and see if they're in transition like VF-84 was.

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

Oh no!...did CW paint these the wrong color? The photos of the model indicate they are gray. I better cancel my order and get the Moonlighters!

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

Watched the movie, 500 didn't show up until near the end. 500, 506, and 507 have white. 504 looks like grey. RF-8's seemed to be grey. All A-7's still in white. Most F-14's in grey (210 also had grey flaps).

Based on careful comparisons, I suspect one F-14 (possibly 203) had "200" modexes applied to the nose to stand-in for the real 200 in some scenes.

Actually 200 doesn't play much of a role in that movie. Just the opening take off and landing. its mainly 202, 203 fighting the zeroes and 210 leading the group thats doing most of the scenes

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

Is anybody else concerned that AJ-500's tail should apparently be white and not gray?

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

While 200 doesn't "do" much, it has as much screen time as any other plane due to the sheer length of its scenes. The reason I suspect there was some repainting was:

1. The white/grey separation lines on the nose don't match up at all, scene-to-scene.

2. When it's taxiing off from the catapult, it really, really looks like the wings are marked as "203" with the nose being "200". And again, that plane's white/grey lines don't match some other shots of "200".

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

Yes...but what about this A-6 situation?
