Re: A-6 control surfaces color

I'll keep it but it would be nice to know if it is correctly painted. I'll enjoy it either way...but even more if I know it is right.

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

So we don't have a definitive answer to this one or is it supposed to be white and no one has the heart to break the bad news to me?

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

The movie shows several of VA-35's planes clearly. Some have grey, some have white. At the time, AJ500 clearly had all-white stabs (watch when they launch the strike force against the Japanese--it taxies up to the catapult). The model may be correct for 1980, but it is not correct for The Final Countdown. Or perhaps AJ500 was soon repainted into entirely grey after filming and it never had white belly+grey stabs.

From earlier in the thread:

"Watched the movie, 500 didn't show up until near the end. 500, 506, and 507 have white. 504 looks like grey. "

So the model would be correct if they'd done 504, but all the others seen onscreen had white. The entire Navy was transitioning paint schemes at the time, but we do have good photographic reference for many planes of the Nimitz's wing due to the movie.

Re: A-6 control surfaces color

I wonder if CW knows something we don't! I can't believe they would make such an error.

I think we need to keep in mind that not all diecast manufacturers are "nutters" like we are and therefore are prone to make mistakes.. Plus the fact that Century Wings is a Japanese Company and may not have the resources we do in English.
To be honest, The stabilizer color is really not that important to me and if it ever becomes a big deal, I have white paint that will fix the problem easy enough..
