Thanks for the confirmation on the stick/pump inquiry,FVD...The F-111 has always been a favorite of mine..Another aircraft that doesn't ever seem to get it's due recognition, even in the plastic model world..I do remember building a 1/72nd Revell kit of it back in the late '60s. They gave the option of building it either as an Air Force F-111A, or the dumped Navy F-111B. Then Aurora came out with one in a less accurate looking, larger scale which I also had to have..I remember both kits featured operating retractable landing gear.

I would love to see one in diecast, but as I said before, I'm not going to hold my breath!

The best F-111 plastic model, by far (and I guess the only one available right now) is the Academy 1/48 scale one, which I have in my collection. I posted a picture of it in another thread somewhere, and you can also see it in my "collection" thread. It's a good mould (much better than the old Monogram in the same scale which was pretty bad), but pretty large in that scale.

Yep, I lusted after that one in your photo. If it weren't for the fact that I left the model building scene a few years ago, I would tackle that one.....Diecast is now my only hope!

I'd like to see an Aardvark...but before that I would like to see a B-1B Lancer. In 1/72 scale, a jet like that could be anywhere from 17-18 inches long

Yeah, I know what you mean Skunky. I really don't have the time and inclination to build too many myself, but I have the luck to know someone around here who is an expert model builder and does some for me occasionally (including that F-111F).

But I'm really afraid of what will happen with my plastic models when I move some day (and that day will come...). I'll try to pack them as best I can, but still... Whereas with diecast, I have most of the boxes, and the models are quite a bit sturdier anyway by their very nature. That's a huge advantage for me, besides time/skill required.

Thumbs up Re: Would you like an FB-111 for your collection.

Having worked on the F-111 project at Genorous Dynamacus for three years, I was responsible for the keeping the Gatlin Gun in spare parts. I would love to have a model of the F-111 in its camo paint scheme. Actually in just about any scheme would do for me! Will it be out tomorrow?

Hey, cool. We did have the M-61 gun on a lot of the A models at Mountain Home (366 TFW), but we never, ever fired them. Too bad (I did get to do that often, though, in the F-16 a few years later).

When I went to the F-111F at Lakenheath, the gun was not an option any more since the entire weapons bay was replaced with the PAVE TACK laser/IIR pod rotating craddle.

Would absolutely love an F-111E from Upper Hayford. I grew up just down the road and remember them well.

Also remember climbing over a scrap ejection capsule we came across in a local yard.

Duxford's got a great "E" model in the American Air museum, and also an Ejection capsule next to it.

FVD -

One thing that I've always wondered about. Where I lived in Warwickshire we would always be getting RAF jets going over us at minimum altitude. We never did get the USAF coming over us doing the same thing. Whenever I saw an F-111 in the air it was always high over Banbury or on approach to the airfield.

Did you guys have restrictions on where you could do your low flying or did you just do it in different places. Was your training regime v.different.

Ooops!
