Re: Century F-14A VF-154 NF101

I'm gonna bite the bullet and get it anyway...If we wait for the perfect F-14 (or any other for that matter) model to come out, the UPS truck will be bringing it to the cemetery.

There are errors that I just won't stand for, and it's true that it made absolutely no sense for them to screw with it. But I think I can live with this one...(anyway, it looks like an easy enough fix if I just can't get any sleep because of it)

Unfortunately,if you want a "perfect" Tomcat, you're still going to have to build it yourself.

Who knows why they did it backwords....I'll just do a weather job to make the engine & shrouds area look good.

There's isn't a bad enough F-14 diecast that will make this statement true in my case

Re: Century F-14A VF-154 NF101

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's because they were built in japan, and the japanese read books from back to front???

Please remember this is an INTERNATIONAL forum, and making comments such as this can sometimes be quite inflammatory, even if they are only meant in jest.

Angry My opinion

Hey Folks,

after I have read so much (closer: so many good things) about Century´s F-14s since October 2006, my sample of No. 100, VF-154 finally arrived on Thursday this week.

Ok, the detailing maybe excellent, except for some minor shortcomings like the wrongly painted engine nozzles. I could have lived with that. But what I am really sad about is the fact that none of the plastic parts (landing gear and weapons) fitted properly.

The main gear and the Sidewinders really had to be "beaten" into the plane. I had to counterhold so hard that the former dull shine of the paint shows lots of small scratches and glossy patches now.

I had to use abrasive paper to make the "boxes" of the main gear fit smoothly, which took me quite a while.

On the other hand, the bombs and the front gear slipped off when turning the model around to display it. I really did not and still do not understand this, since my "old" F-14 (the former "Forces of Valor" VF-154) did not show any of this problems, anything fitted properly on the first attempt.

I can only come to the conclusion that Mr. Urata-San has not done his homework regarding manufacturing tolerances of the "new" mould.

So I simply have to say that Century´s F-14...

...IS NOT WORTH ITS MONEY!!! (at least my sample wasn´t).

You may understand me or not - if not, I can still live with that, even if I am the first one who says this about Century´s Tomcats.

Re: Century F-14A VF-154 NF101

Since it was brought up:

My only real issues were the main gear being too tight (why are they even painted on the outside of the "box" they're mounted in? It's utterly invisible---simply not painting that part would make everything fine) and the Phoenix pallets---the pins aren't in perfect alignment with the holes in the fuselage, making the pallets curve when installed.

Re: Century F-14A VF-154 NF101

I also had Gear problems on my Black Knights and Freelancers Tomcats...ie one of the main gear's not fitting in all the way and needing to sand it down alittle to fight. Still love my Century's though.

Re: Century F-14A VF-154 NF101

My nose gear-up piece won't even stay in. It is too small to fit the space and falls out, so my N101 is cursed to be wheels-down until I find a way to fix it.

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

yeah, I just opened up my NF100 and NF101 two days ago and the pieces were too loose. Some of them had to be glued in place. One good thing about this these planes though is that the FOV missles fit perfectly. So I gave one plane a set of sparrows, and one a set of pheonix
