Points well made and so taken RJ. I hear you guys but l was hoping to lure some more responses. I've seen some pics and they do look good. Value for money? I don't know. Do they have interchangeable undercarriages?

Re: Century Wings & FOV what makes them different?

Yes, infact it's really cool how they do it. The Gear and the Doors are all one peice for the extended version and the doors are all one peice for the retracted configuration. Can't really say anything else that everyone else hasn't already said. I 100% agree with David, Century F-14's are the BEST diecast AIRCRAFT period...not just of an F-14 but of any Aircraft.

If you want something that just generally looks like it's subject....like Dragons and Witty's, then go ahead and buy those products. But if you want an extremely accurate scale model of an F-14....down to the smallest detail, than Century wings is the way to go. Can't really say anything else or give enough praise to these products. I'm anxiously awaiting my Black-Knights and Freelancers Tomcats to arrive from Flying Mule.

Chris

Re: Century Wings & FOV what makes them different?

I guess it boils down to how much a collector is willing to pay or how much they love a particular model/representation. I have both Dragon and FOV f-14's and after close scrutiny of the Century concluded that having spent only $18 on the FOV Black Knights version I did really well. IMHO opinion my Dragon f-14 should be melted down and cast into bullets. My 2 cents: for the price the FOV F-14 is really close despite the small details previously mentioned that were corrected by Century so on a poor mans budget FOV gives you the 2nd best F-14 out there. If I had $60 allocated for any jet fighter it would go to Century but I am just not that picky. For the cost I can get 3 FOV F-14 re-paints so why would I? Century apparently nailed it FOV offers a great model for much less but will they offer more liveries or should I ask how many different F-14's do any of us really need in our collection especially with rising costs and tons of new molds coming in the future? I suggest to all find what you consider the best example of your favorite plane and at your comfortable price point. Both are excellent models. Cheers!

Re: Century Wings & FOV what makes them different?

I am still thinking about getting whether the FOV black knights or the century wings "jolly roger". I think it is just too much to spend $60+ on a single model; especially that it is just a little bit better than FOV.

However, I cannot find a FOV black knight for around $20; as Louie says. The best price I can find is $35+shipping. Can Louie give me a pointer to where can I find a $20 FOV black knight. Thx.

Does anyone have one of each so that a photo comparison can be done?

Smile Re: Century Wings & FOV what makes them different?

I just ordered the Century F-14, Black knights-100, based on all the positive input I've b een reading on this site. Plus, I already own the 1:48 version of this bird (FMB238) and I want to do a comparison between the two.
Unfortunately, the FM version, which is HUGE and consequently doesn't see much display time, is in Upstate New York and I'm in Hilton Head, SC until April. As I recall, the FM version is pretty well done, so it'll be inteeresting to see the amount of detailing between the two scales.

PS At $60.00 a pop it better be the best diecast model ever made

Re: Century Wings & FOV what makes them different?

I have got both the FOV and CenturyWings F-14A. They are among the best diecast models I have. The only minor downside I have for them is the presence of some gaps (near the intake for the VF-84 and the two front pallets for phoenix for both).

the nose gear on the Jolly Roger is better but I can overlook this detail the overall finish of both is really good. The weathering has a profound effect on the FOV.

Re: Century Wings & FOV what makes them different?

I'd just like to point out that Century is the only company to get the basic scheme for a low-vis F-14 correct. I mean, if you're going to get a low-vis F-14, shouldn't having the correct overall scheme be an important point? For how many issues there are with Dragon's F-15E, at least they painted it right.
